I don’t think Villains could have been given cover roles because again, there would be no use for a name cop then.
Mahaloth could be telling the truth, or he could have just looked up an obscure “good” character and hoped it wasn’t duplicated. (I don’t actually know if this one is obscure, I’m only really familiar with Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello, and Midsummernight’s Dream.)
Well, I’m sure everyone is waiting on pins and needles for my deductions… \s
One of the more important questions of this game won’t be answered until the game is over: how many Villains are there? Now, while I proved earlier there were none, my reasoning must have been flawed, since we have had one villain go out while the game is still going on. So I suspect we started with either 3 or 4.
Town seems to have some fairly potent powers, given that the villain died in the night, and AotN is claiming to be a name cop. We do not know if the former was the exercise of Pardel-Lux’s power, or a side effect of their offing Pardel-Lux, or if another townie did the deed. This might mean that Chronos as GM was cautious enough to add more baddies when setting up the game. We also don’t know why (if AotN is telling the truth) her power redirected from Mahaloth to Thing.Fish. It could be that someone else has the power to redirect, or Mahaloth’s character automatically redirects randomly, or that her power is randomly directed - possibly to a randomly-selected character of the same general class as the one she targeted (or of the opposing class?)
Anyway, we have a solid claim from AotN vs. Thing.Fish. Working out the different possibilities, and given that AotN reports a definite hit on Thing.Fish, I think we have to
vote Thing.Fish
and, if Thing.Fish ends up Town and AotN survives the night, we will know who to exile at the end of Day 3 (or a hypothetical vig will know who to off the second night). Best case would be 7 v. 1 remaining at start of Day 3; worst would be 4 v. 2 left at start of Day 4 (which would be one bad night away from a town disaster).
There is one other interesting question that came to me. Is it possible there is a turncoat character? That is, if this (possibly unprecedented) mix of town powers is shown to be too powerful, could Chronos tell a player that they have switched allegiance in the midgame if it looks like it has gotten out of hand in favor of town? Can anyone think of any Shakespeare character who did a heel turn part way through the play?
I gotta say this is a lot of fun but I probably should have gotten some more experience with a vanilla game first.
NETA: the “edited” marker on my post is because I highlighted AotN’s complete post, then hit reply; Discourse took it out because my reply is directly after in sequence.
It’s not relevant to the game, but (as an elderly person) I am delighted by the references to the Goon Show and the Manfred Mann version of the Dylan song.
I just want to say Glee and Sun and the other newer players. It’s a pleasure to have some new blood around here!
This game is tough to begin with, but this game in particular is crazy confusing. So keep hanging tight. Tell us your thoughts because that’s how we all learn.
A couple of people I haven’t seen much of today.

Where art thou? What do you think of Angel of the North’s claim?
Sorry Bro, you may be innocent but if you aren’t a villain AngelOfTheNorth goes tomorrow! I don’t think I’ll have peace unless I put this mystery to bed.
I wondered if you meant Biotop, since his profile picture resembles a skull, but he’s suffering a minor case of being dead.
I gave some of my thoughts earlier, but haven’t voted yet.
Case against Thing.Fish
The simplest: AngeloftheNorth is telling the truth, she asked about Mahaloth, it was redirected by person unknown, and it contains accurate information that Thing.Fish is a villain.
Case against Mahaloth
Either a) He’s Angelo, and Angelo has the power that if he’s targeted by the name cop, his name will be given, but for another player - either he gets to choose, in which case Thing.Fish is probably innocent, or at random. I don’t know if this is plausible, not having played before.
b) AotN’s theory that he is a villain with ordinary redirect power, and redirected the request to another villain. Not sure why he’d do this rather than redirect to a townie.
Case against AngeloftheNorth
She made up this complicated story to implicate both Mahaloth and Thing.Fish. A risky thing to do, since if we kill another townie today, she will almost certainly be next.
Seems like Thing.Fish is the obvious choice, plus I was already a little suspicious of him.
I’m going back and forth on Mahaloth because I do see why people are saying it would make more sense, if he’s the redirector, to redirect to Town rather than scum.
I just don’t see a reason for Villain Thing.Fish to swing the vote from town Mahaloth to LH75, unless LH75 gave a power tell. I didn’t see any power tell for him, unlike Pardel-Lux, but it’s possible the scum team read LH75’s quietness as a power tell?
