Right. Thanks. That makes more sense.
I should have nobly sacrificed myself after all, either of you would have won tomorrow.
I still do not know why I died Night 1.
So, with hindsight, had I not redirected Dizzymrslizzy’s [ETA: not her, but AngeloftheNorth, sorry] name cop from Mahalot to Thing.Fish, but instead redirected my murder towards the same Thing.Fish, we would have killed Thing.Fish, found out that Mahalot was a Villain, I would have survived and the road to victory would have been wide open for us. So: my fault, one wrong move, Mahalot was protected, Thing.Fish survived one more Day and I got killed.
And we would have gotten Biotop too, right? Who did that, how and why? Greatest mistery to me.
I would like to make the villain chat public, but the way I thought I could do it doesn’t seem to work. I’ll try again later.
To explain that bizarre Night 1:
- @Dizzymrslizzy , who played Brutus, the vigilante, thought that her power might be some sort of investigator. So she targeted a skilled player, @Biotop, whom it would be valuable to know the alignment of.
- @AngeloftheNorth , who played Hamlet, correctly suspected that she was an investigator, and so also targeted a skilled player, @Thing.Fish .
- @Pardel-Lux , who played Robin Goodfellow, the redirector, didn’t know how to use his power, but only that to use it, he had to target exactly two people. And so he chose to target the two people of whom he was most suspicious, @Mahaloth and @Thing.Fish . With the result that anything targeting either one of them would instead target the other.
- And speaking of @Pardel-Lux and his top two suspicions, didn’t anyone ever wonder why the Scum team would choose to target the newbie player with a power he didn’t understand, over the veteran player who said she thought she understood her power? That was why.
His full role name was “Cardinal Bouchier”. Cardinal comes after Bianca.
And I did ask Mahaloth who he’d kill, to be sure, because after all, he could have made a mistake and killed @DemonTree . But he didn’t fall for it: His kill order was “Whichever of Storyteller and Prof.Pepperwinkle survives”.
I have to go now, but I’ll be back this evening for more discussion.
That would have been very Shakespearian.
I think this was not so: AngeloftheNorth targeted Mahalot, I unknowingly redirected that inquiry towards Thing.Fish.
Thanks for the game, all. I wish I could have played longer!

MY BEST GAME EITHER EVER IN A REALLY LONG TIME!
Our scum team was picked off so quickly, I talked about resignation on the villain chat since I figured I would collect votes and that I would be investigated.
I just kept on going, though, and for some reason suspicion seemed to move off me.
Why do I feel like I may die day 1 in the next game? I swear I play about the same as scum or town!

Mahaloth, you cannot say in the future that Day 1 is a crapshoot since the entire villain team got targeted for our D1 performance. I think Day 1 is the absolute hardest for Scum.
Yes, you were. But, alas!, with the wrong weapons.
Yeah. I was reluctant to give up our last chance of banishing a villain when there were so many unknowns, but I should have suggested it. Story and ProfP really seemed to be onto something, though, and a 2/3 chance of getting the villain seemed like a good bet.
What I want to know is whether @Dizzymrslizzy killed @SunUp . I couldn’t understand that at all; I’d probably have offed @Mahaloth night 2 if I’d been the vigilante, and if not, definitely on night 3.
- Boo, obviously, to the result.
- HUGE credit to Mahaloth. You had me completely fooled. I was like 80% sure Prof.P was Iago, and I’d have gone for DemonTree before I went in your direction. Great game!
- Like DemonTree, I am very curious as to why @Dizzymrslizzy killed SunUp instead of Mahaloth, given that Lizzy was suspicious of Mahaloth the prior Day.
- Thank you, @Chronos, for hosting! On the whole, I thought this was among the very best Mafia setups I’ve played - simple enough to be digestible, but just enough moving parts and uncertainty to keep us talking and guessing.
I hope we can do this again soon! Playing in this one made me want to moderate again - if there’s interest, I’d volunteer to host here in a week or two.
Yay scum! Thanks for carrying us home, Mahaloth!!
(good game to all you townie sorts too)
I’m out right now and can’t make a big post but I have a lot to share!
yes I shot Biotop, Bicycle and Sunup.
Reasons coming tonight
Obviously I pulled out the “et tu, Brute?” line a little too soon.
Gotta give props to Mahaloth for sitting back and letting town do itself in, with just enough contribution to avoid suspicion. Well played, sir!
And thanks to our GM Chronos, who made my first go around at this game online a pleasure. Really enjoyed the theme and the chance to brush up on my Shakespeare.
I think repeating here what I just wrote in the spectator’s thread is OK:
Now I can, so those were my instruccions:
If I have to target two players or none, my power could not be any of the powers listed by Thing.Fish, because those powers only workd for one player: vig, name cop, doctor…
And it was the word “target” which led my overthinking astray: I read “target” as an act that does harm, so it did not cross my mind that I could target myself and someone I thought a Villain. Claiming to be a major character and redirecting Scum’s killing towards someone I suspected to be Scum would have been a brilliant move.
On the other hand, had I chosen myself and Biotop * (instead of myself Thing.Fish, the best move, or Mahaloth, the other suspect I had in mind), who got targeted by Dizzymrslizzy, we would both be dead and nobody could have known that it was not those who thought they had killed each one of us who had indeed killed us, but a ricochet: Scum would have killed Biotop, not me, and Dizzymrslizzy would have killed me, not Biotop. But nobody would have been able to tell the difference. Only you, AngeloftheNorth, would have known that Mahaloth was Scum, but then you would not have known that Thing.Fish was Scum. Would that have been better? No idea.
And as my power would have had no effect I would not have known what it was and the rest of the players would wrongly assume that I had not used it. But that would have had no consequences that I can see.
The optimum move would have been targeting myself and Thing.Fish. Assuming you would have targeted Mahaloth (as you did) and Dizzimrslizzy had targeted Biotop (as she did), we would have won on Night 2. Sorry, it was not to be. I did not have enough beginner’s luck! I came close, but as they say in German: Knapp daneben ist auch vorbei. (DeepL translates this as “close, but no cigar”. Which I in turn would rate as a “close, but no cigar” translation).
* To be frank, I was not suspecting Biotop at all, so it is unlikely that I would have picked him. But the consequences, had I done so, would have been what I have written. I believe. Probably. Yeah. Hum.

And I just see that I forgot to thank @Chronos for a very interesting experience. You put a lot of effort into this, it was a pleasure! Well done!
Should you people play this game again I would like to participate again if you accept me. And I promise I will not give away that I am a major character on the very first night!
Although I still think that a Scum role would be better adapted to my…
inclinations.
Angel and her adult daughter are starting up another game over on Giraffe as we speak.
Thank you @Chronos for the game.
I want to tell you all that I really thought any 1-2 or 2-2 situation with Town vs. Scum ended in scum winning the game.
I actually had a scare realizing that while I was likely going to be 1-1 at the end of the game, I might be screwed. I did a deep dive and realized my goal: Keep @DemonTree alive!
I was Iago, so both Prof. and Story were above me and I can not tell you how:
- furious
- upset
- regretful
I’d have been to lose in a 1-1 tie when mafia pretty much always gives ties to scum.
From a moderating and game-creation perspective, I’d probably make 1-1 a scum win even with a tie breaking mechanism just to reward them for making it to game end.
Mahaloth, that was truly a jegendary win for you and your team.
