Shakespeare Mafia -- Act IV (Game Over)

Nope, I took it clearly as color……. From my POV my only instruction was that I had to target one player, and honestly I didn’t even see the must until right now!

The only reason I was worried Id do something bad was because Brutus turned on Caesar…..I didn’t think it was clear in any way.

Ah, now it makes more sense. I never really believed there were 4 villains, and I was so confused by this death.

Congratulations to @Mahaloth for somehow surviving in very difficult circumstances! And thanks to @Chronos for running the game.

I would also be interested in playing again, if anyone wants me.

there are sign-ups right now on Giraffeboard. Join us there. It’s fun!

Thanks

This is hilarious but also human. It’s Shakespeare.

Perfectly clear if you know the role and read the color, maybe not so much if you just read the name.

I can forgive @Pardel-Lux, new to the game, slightly weird role. But for experienced mafia players to treat it all as color . . .

Well, let’s see…

  1. I know for a fact I’m a pretty mediocre player, so I frequently make this kind of mistake.
  2. Most of us experienced players haven’t actually been playing for the last 2 or 3 years because of changes at the Giraffe Boards, and we’re rusty.
  3. It’s a lot, lot, lot easier to see these things as a spectator than when you’re in the game itself.

Yeah, I can see point three in particular. Had I been playing, I don’t know that I’d have called your votes out as scummy but I night have called them out as annoying.

And you’d have explained yourself adequately and id be no wiser as to whom to vote for (or not and maybe other people would vote for you too).

Alas, we’re getting close again to that time of year when I won’t have enough time to play, so I’ll have to sit out.

If anyone wants to run one starting next June or so, let me know!

But if you’ll note, until the last Day, nobody really voted for me. And the two who did vote for me were an OMGUS vote and the last Villain.

I’m usually pretty sharp at infuriating players and then talking my way out of it. It’s my one strong point.

Ahem. THANKS AGAIN!!!

Your vote on Storyteller was a weak one, though. It relied on too many things. First, it relied on you being honest about your role name, which of course you knew, but nobody else did. Second, it relied on the Scum having a role-investigator (which they didn’t, though you didn’t know that). Third, it relied on that investigator having targeted you specifically, before the slip, which IIRC meant on the very first Night. Fourth, it relied on Storyteller being so interested in your role name that he’d think of you primarily in those terms, rather than all of the many other ways he could think of you (from prior knowledge, or from your avatar, etc.). Certainly, no matter how you slice it, Storyteller made a mistake. Your theory was just that he made a mistake with a lot of other steps.

It’s not so ludicrously weak a vote that I’d have voted you for it. It’s far better than Mahaloth’s “just a hunch” vote (which, again, nobody took note of, even though they really should have). But I certainly wouldn’t have followed you on it.

Yeah, but, Chronos, to me you are a known commodity. Ever since the first game I’ve played you’ve thought my gameplay sucks. You are often right in that, as you’ve detailed just now, but it doesn’t deter me from sticking with my peculiarities.

However, if I’m in a game with you, I do pay more attention to your advice than many others.

Yes, @DemonTree, please join us!

The commonly used term for Robin Goodfellow’s power is “Bus Driver.” Traditionally a town role but one that also is often seen as frequently more a liability for Town than an asset.

Makes sense. Thanks.

I see from a scan through the Spectator thread that I was generally/tonally suspicious to a lot of observers. That’s interesting to me - what was I doing that was reading off/non-Town?

For myself, I think it was an absolutely classic case of confirmation bias. Something about your posting struck me as off. I was reading a tone of being overly reasonable; that is, it felt to me like you were trying too hard. From that minor vibe, I started to interpret what you were saying to fit that preconceived notion and I was off to the races.

It’s a really perfect example of what not to do in Mafia, and I’m glad I wasn’t playing :poop:
