Shall We Discuss Peanut Butter? And, p'raps Jelly? Yes. We Shall.

I don’t have one, but I imagine you might even be able to fit in a little drizzled honey with your PB&B if you were using one of those panini press thingies. Please try it and report back so I know if I want to amend my birthday wish list.

Welcome MES690!

I’m of the opinion that the bread is an equally important constituent to a good PB & J as any other ingredient. I used to live in a much larger city where so-called “artisan bakeries” produced breads that were perfectly moist & chewy and had flavor that put any mass produced breads to shame. Sure I paid three or four bucks a loaf - but as with any addiction once you get a taste of the good stuff there’s no turning back.

The peanut butter itself I’m not picky about - any brand, any level of smoothness or chunkiness. But I must insist on Smucker’s Raspberry Preserves, the seeds add a texture that cannot be replicated with any other form of preservation. Might be a good time to mention that my gag reflex kicks in just thinking about those “no refrigeration required” jellies. You may have seen these counterfeits in your college or high school cafeteria, left out all day in a half-gallon bucket for masses.

In preparing the sandwhich, I also like to spread a modest layer butter or margarine on the side that gets the jelly. This prevents any soaking through if it’s going to be a while before I get to eat it.

Yes, absolutely. I don’t mind the gruntwork required to stir it up once in a while. Adams 100% Natural Crunchy is my preferred brand, though there seems to be something different about it since Smuckers bought them (they used to be local to the Northwest).

(And here is a funny rant on the subject of natural PB, starting with the line, “You know, I have strong opinions about a lot of subjects besides homosexuality.”)

I’d also like to compliment the contributors thus far at their restraint in not igniting the crunchy-vs-smooth preference wars that typically accompany this topic. I mean, just because some people aren’t mature enough to enjoy texture along with flavor, doesn’t mean we have to fight about it… :stuck_out_tongue:

I find it kinda ironic in that as I am reading this thread right now, I’m munching on Saltine crackers with PB on them sprinkled with a little sugar. Love Ritz crackers with peanut butter on them too!

This is something my father used to get from a little restaurant in Central California. I doubt the restaurant is still there, so I’ll probably never get to try one myself. Unless anyone knows the trick. (And if it’s really good or not.)

I’m a little suprised nobody has mentioned this, unless nobody else has been desperate enough to try it. Or everyone else that has tried this sandwhich hasn’t lived long enough to write about it. Personally, I love peanut butter with my hotdogs. Boiled all beef hotdogs are the best. Then if you think that’s not enough fat for you, add slices of cheese. Preferably sharp chedder. Or if eating that in a hotdog bun is too messy for you, boil a couple hotdogs and then slice them lengthwise, laying them on a sandwhich. I’m the only person of the family that could stand this, and if other condiments catch my eye, a dab of relish, mustard, or maybe onion wouldn’t be out of the question.

fake white bread* (Wonder is the best).
Jif smooth PB (I prefer chunky but it gets stuck in my teeth and drives me crazy)
Strawberry-Rhubarb jam made by the wonderful Trappist monks from Spencer MA

Yum

*yes, I know the evil of fake white bread but it’s the only think that will do for PB sammiches
My grandpa once ate a PB and onion with horseradish (sp?) on an onion roll. He told me that he was eating it during a meeting of the Civil Rights Commission. Now, I love my grandpa dearly but I wish I could have been there to see his face when he bit into it and tried to maintain his composure in front of the others  .
He’s tried some really odd combinations before but I think he said that was the only one he’d never try again.

Good whole grain bread, toasted
Organic peanutbutter, no aditives, somewhat chunky
A big mofo heaping spoon of sambal

Goes down great, comes out hot.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential, really…
but PB & J is another thing, you know what I’m talking about, dawg…

The Art of the PB & J:

Three pieces whole wheat bread.
Two sides covered w/ natural/organic peanut butter
Two sides covered w/ Red Raspberry Preserves WITH SEEDS dammit.
Triple-Deck that mug.
Cold glass of milk.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, you’ll have some Pringles on hand to complete the deal.

And that’s that.

Um… chunky peanut butter is a crime against nature.

PB was made to be smooth and delicious. As for the jelly, it has to be preserves with real fruit bits on it, though jam will do in a pinch. And the bread has to be white or potato bread, and not warmed up! The bread is exclusively a delivery system, I never eat toast.

Yum!

Then dahlin’, ya’ll ahh surrounded by da criminal element !!!
