Here’s how I rate the four Bravo design competitions:
-
Project Runway. Enough said.
-
Shear Genius. I liked the fact that it was low-key, without a lot of drama or really outlandish challenges. I thought it would be very difficult to come up with a series’ worth of hair styling challenges, but they did a pretty good job. I went from just catching this show in one of the many reruns, to taping it every week. If they do another season, I will definitely watch.
-
Top Design. Boring and annoying. I only watched parts of the first season, and I wouldn’t watch a second one.
-
Top Chef. Ick. Boring and annoying, plus as shamrock227 says, the audience has no way to judge the most important element of the tasks performed. Besides, the contestants and the judges were some of the most arrogant, obnoxious people I’ve ever seen. There was no rooting interest at all, because everyone was mean and petty. I watched the first season because of Project Runway (also it was in San Francisco, which meant that I got to see familiar locations – one challenge took place two blocks from where I live), but didn’t watch the second and won’t watch any future seasons.
