sherlock series 3

That was hilarious!

Next episode trailer - looks a bit darker (also, hope it works internationally)

How can someone be stabbed seriously & deep enough to bleed out within minutes yet not feel the stabbing at all?

I think the premise was that the tight uniform belts they were wearing both desensitized them to the ice pick or whatever it was going in, and acted as tourniquets so they didn’t bleed out until they took the belts off. Not sure if that’s medically possible or just TV possible, though.

This episode grew on me as it went along. Plenty of funny moments, too. I would love to know how Sherlock deduced that the wedding guest had a history of erectile dysfunction. And how Lestrade hasn’t killed him and dumped his corpse in the Thames.

I don’t know that I liked it as well as everyone else. Maybe too much on character development and not enough on an actual case. I think if there were more than three episodes it wouldn’t bother me as much.

For the same reason he doesn’t feel an itchy arse.

I’m posting my thoughts before reading everyone elses so I don’t get influenced.

Best. Episode. Ever.

Yep, I loved every single second of it and it will be hard to beat as the best episode of TV for the entire year of 2014.

Amazing.

  1. What was the main point of showing the bank robberies at the beginning?

  2. How did the killer kill people? He put a long needle in their belt or stabbed them through the back and the belt held them together?

It was to setup a not very funny joke at Lestrade’s expense. Finally being able to convict the robbers would have been a huge feather in his cap and been a high point of his career, and he gave up the collar for a false emergency.

Loved the rest of the episode though. I’m really enjoying this series as much as the others.

  1. Just to show how incredibly invested Lestrad was in the case and how much he was giving up by rushing to “save” Sherlock.

  2. Yeah, some kind of hyper-thin needle that you can’t feel and gets held in place by the belt, and when you take it out you bleed out almost instantly. A little weird.

  1. I figured.

  2. Wow, that’s a lot to ask us to believe.

Still, I loved every second of it.

It was great, though I had just mentioned to my sister (who I was watching with) how glad I was that they were moving away from the ridiculous “not a psychopath, a high-functioning sociopath” thing, and then he says it just a few minutes later.

I choose to believe that Sherlock says that just because he enjoys fucking with people and not because he actually believes that he’s a sociopath.

I was expecting the triplets with the different moles to have something to do with it, to make the episode title make sense.

Really boring episode. A 3 episode per season show shouldn’t have episodes like this

The Sign of Three title paid off (in a rather heavy-handed way) with Sherlock’s detection of Mary’s pregnancy - he spotted SIGNS that she and John were no longer two but THREE.

I feel sure I’m missing some terribly clever reference in last night’s Matchbook Decathlete scene. Anyone got any thoughts on that, beyond the obvious echo of the briefcase in Pulp Fiction?

That was a lot of fun. Drunk detection really is the best.

In the last episode, I really liked the Sherlock/Mycroft conversation that parallels the one from A Scandal In Belgravia, where Sherlock says he’s not afraid of sex, and Mycroft asks, “How would you know?”. In The Empty Hearse, same conversation, but about loneliness. How would Mycroft know if he is lonely? Nothing to compare it with…

Loved this episode. I wasn’t too excited for it considering how weak the other 2nd episodes were but this one was great.

It reminded me off the Doctor Who episode “The Power of Three” which also paid off in a similar way at the end of the episode. It felt like they got all the way to the end and realized “oh shit, we better explain why we called this episode the power of three.”

while dr. and mrs. watson are away (sex holiday) sherlock will play!

the photo album is cute, and the question of the belt stabbing is answered.

I hear there’s a big plot twist next week:

Sherlock Holmes will actually spend most of the episode investigating a case.
