sherlock would be the most fantastic wedding planner. no bridezilla, monster of the bride, wedding guest of horrour, or invisible murderers with sherlock in charge.
loved his interaction with archie. i’ve got to admit, i figure most of us on this board (including me) would have been fascinated by crime scene stuff as kids (don’t think we have out grown it).
Finally, after decades of shit like “Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” and for the first time since 1924’s Sherlock, Jr, we have a Sherlock Holmes comedy that was funny. And cute. So well done that I don’t begrudge them the cuteness.
A much more straightforward narrative tonight, but none the worse for that. A massively creepy villain, and some very surprising events. I liked what they did with Mary, I had been a bit worried they might have gone with something closer to the books.
OK, so I will say I very much liked the ending. The music just starting and then the show pulls you back and reveals to us that Sherlock is* immediately* coming back instead of going away at all.
I like that a lot.
I found the episode to be pretty good, though a bit hard to follow for me.
I hope they are back in 18 months this time, instead of 2 years.
Could be way sooner. Their schedules will be considerably more open than they have been recently, and production on Doctor Who should be over by mid year.
I freeze-framed it - it was the same six things over and over again. John Watson, Irene Adler(see file), Jim Moriarty(see file), Redbeard(see file), Hounds of the Baskerville, and opium.
I have a feeling that “Redbeard” was a little teaser for the next season.
Pretty strong episode. Magnuson was a great villain. Despite Sherlock’s persistent claims of sociopathy, though, I find it a bit jarring that he killed someone in cold blood like that.
My own thought was that he had assumed that there was a vault full of files that Magnusson used for his blackmail, and Sherlock wanted to destroy that. Once he realised that the “vault” was in fact Magnusson’s mind palace, that all the information was in his head, then the only way to destroy the information was to destroy the head.
The standard trope for a blackmailer is to guarantee his safety by saying “your files are hidden is such a way that they will be released if you kill me.” Once it is known that there is no safeguard, Magnusson was in danger. I don’t know how he failed to realize this. The empty vault is not something he could afford to show anyone.
That said, only john, Sherlock, and Mycroft know that the vault was empty. (Presumably the swat team didn’t know what they were looking at.). This means that Mycroft can go on using the information that Magnusson was holding over their enemies, as no one knows that he doesn’t possess it. As far as they know, Mycroft seized the contents of the vault.
