Isn’t Sara Palin endorsing Donald Trump akin to Pee Wee Herman endorsing George Papoon?
Trump is definitely working The Producers script: Palin is his Springtme for Hitler.
There’s no way he chooses her for running mate. He know she’s stupid, he’s using her as a pawn.
That’s liberal talk.
As for the OP, the unpalatable endorses the unspeakable; why is anyone surprised?
I can’t really debate what you’re saying, TriPolar; the polls all indicate that Trump is leading and this will only firm up his lead, IMHO. But the difference between him and Bush(s)/Reagan is that they at least had some governmental history (as Governors of large states in Reagan and Bush the Younger cases, and as Vice President, House of Reps and other jobs for ‘Poppy’ Bush). They had some standing, a ‘track record’ of political decisions and responsibility. Some (indeed, many) may not have thought them the best choice for President, but we did know what we were getting.
But Trump…nothing. And nothing he says is the slightest help (again, IMHO), in determining what we would have as president.
So my opinion is that, like the Soviet Union, Trump will look formidable…right up to the day he isn’t and it all falls apart.
But I could be wrong and you are right. And yes, that does worry me.
We laughed at Bush the Lesser because he deserved to be laughed at, but how many people were laughing at the prospect that he might be elected? At this time in 2000, he was leading Gore by ~10 points in head-to-head matchups, and other than about a month after the Dem convention, he led wire-to-wire.
No. Candidates raise money separately for the primaries and the general election, and Hillary’s already got a pile of money that she can’t spend on the primaries, but only on the general election.
IYHO. And unlike in 2000, the media aren’t going to make this election about ‘which candidate would you rather have a beer with’ and gloss over Trump’s idiocy the way they did with GWB.
ETA: There’s also a little matter of demographics. This isn’t the same country that let Bush get close enough in 2000 that Florida’s intentional screw-ups and a partisan Supreme Court could put Bush over the top. Let alone the same country that elected Reagan in 1980.
Ya think I’m not worried about this? If we extrapolate from today Trump will be the next President. Luckily extrapolation doesn’t produce good results in this situation, there’s a lot to happen twixt now and then.
Unfortunately the lack of government service is driving Trump right now, and it’s getting him backing from those ‘Reagan Democrat’ types and independents.
If you are counting on the public to have learned from the last two Republican disasters (and we can even throw Nixon in there to make it the last three) then you are giving the public way too much credit.
Wrong party.
That was known to be a two-way race at this time. We just learned yesterday that it’s down to a three way race.
That is correct. Assuming she is the candidate. If it’s Bernie he’ll have to fund his campaign with your vacuum cleaner pennies.
That is so adorable. You’re counting on the media to make things better.
The country is way more pissed off right now than they were in 1980.
I would love a reality TV series with Trump and Palin.
That is priceless art work there.
What polls are you “extrapolating” from that show Trump winning the general election?
When did I mention polls?
At least with Papoon, you knew he wasn’t insane.
That would last about 2 minutes before each one does what they do best:
Palin: “I quit!”
Trump: “You’re fired!”
Sanity does have a well-known liberal bias.
Preferably the day after he gets the nomination. ![]()
For one thing, it would be admitting the possibility that he can die.
I wonder if Trump can get an endorsement from Lloyd and Harry?
We’re talking about the general election, right? Who’s the third candidate?
[QUOTE]
No, I’m just counting on them not to actively fellate the GOP nominee as they did in 2000.
No, the country isn’t. ‘The country,’ IOW, a bunch of white working class people who are a weird combination of borderline racist and genuinely victimized by the 0.01%, are pissed off. And white evangelicals who are feeling persecuted because minimum-wage store clerks say ‘happy holidays’ to them instead of ‘Merry Christmas’ - they’re pissed off, too. (Help, help, they’re being repressed.)
But they’re a shrinking slice of the electorate. Plenty numerous enough to fuck up Congress, but not numerous enough to win the White House.
Anything that helps knock out Cruz is something I can get behind. That man is creepy and dangerous.
