Shia LaBeouf arrested at performance of Cabaret on Broadway

If it is, it’s certainly more than just smoking pot. Of course, some people suffering from some types of mental illness use things like marijuana to self medicate. See the recent case of Amanda Bynes, for example. The neglect of personal hygiene, delusional thoughts and statements, etc. are listed as symptoms of schizophrenia. Like I said, I have no training in this and only know what little I’ve read about it online. I just find it hard to believe that a wealthy movie star would stop bathing, act completely unhinged in public, make delusional statements, etc. unless he was experiencing some sort of mental illness or breakdown. I imagine there could be extenuating circumstances which led to this, but it just looks to me like he’s actually having some sort of mental problem. I know there are people on here that are actually professionals and have experience in this field. Maybe they can offer some insight.

Big day out for Shia apparently. Chasing a homeless guy for a hat was just a prelude.

…or maybe it was all just an act.

I have no idea.

Out of interest how does legal aid work in the US? In Australia no multi-millionaire would ever be represented by a legal aid lawyer. It is very difficult to get free representation in Australia even if you are not very well off.

You must know some really strange drunks.

I’m going for narcissistic attention whore for $500, Alex.

I guess you have no idea how easy it would be for him to get attention without being arrested.

Chasing homeless guy after a cap would have done it.

As a former psych nurse I’m going to vote for in need of professional help. No-one chooses to look like a lunatic.

Actors have done very similar things to promote upcoming projects.

But this isn’t an isolated incident.

Timeline of Shia LaBeouf’s most shocking moments: From child star to troubled actor

Joaquin Phoenix never fooled me. Just sayin. We shall see.

I almost posted these words!

That was my WAG too.

It’s annoying for me because I saw a trailer for Fury yesterday and it looked good and I was thinking this might be the first Shia LaBeouf movie I wanted to see. And then he has to go and remind me what a dickhead he is.

That movie has Brad Pitt, too. Meaning it has to suck ass. :frowning:

How do these actors keep getting cast?? They (actor) cost a bazillion, and the movie still fails to deliver.

Being an actor must royally suck.

And I stand by my previous post.

Unless he suddenly went broke overnight, it’s not likely he’ll continue to be represented by a public defender.

From what I can tell this was just a bail hearing and he was charged with some minor offenses like trespassing. Typically, this is just a formality. A busload of prisoners charged with various petty offenses is marched in front of a judge who typically releases them with a small bail or on their own recognizance. To speed things along a public defender or two is assigned to stand next to them. He could have called his own lawyer, but apparently was being uncooperative the previous night. And he could have demanded his own lawyer which would have meant he’d have to go back to jail until that could be arranged.

It’s basically an assembly line designed to get the prisoners in and out in just a few minutes. Most assuredly, when he comes back for his next hearing he will have his own lawyer.
