Yep, we had smoke and it was thick for a good while. I’m thinking it was just a last gasp from the Bolt Creek fire way up north because it was breezy here too. I was very surprised. At first, I thought some numbnut was burning something in his yard, but it was apparent the smoke was drifting in from the north.
Loved your description of summer being a drunk, nellie, because that’s exactly what it feels like. I just want to move on to autumn for goodness sake.
So it went fairly well, till the boxline cages broke down, and they dumped a bunch of unscanned stuff on me right before the package cars were leaving. But I survived. And it was cool today, whcih was a nice change.
: appropriate and inappropriate appendages crossed for the Fairy Chat move :
I haven’t even seen ours in a month!! Hoping we can get down there on Sunday…
We visited 2 apartment complexes, got soup and salad at Olive Garden, and stopped at Aldi for a few things. FCD is working on an apartment spreadsheet so we can compare. The one we were able to actually walk in (the complex maintains a model!) was nice, but very small. On the plus side, the unit coming available in a couple of weeks is being refurbished right now - new appliances and flooring, among other things. And it’s a very nice complex, but it’s about 24 miles away, so taking them shopping or to the Dr will involve a lot of driving. Plus it’s right next to the Navy base, so it could get loud if lots of flying goes on, not that either of them would hear much. Personally, I didn’t really love it.
The other place is in Leonardtown, close to the retirement community they toured when here. It’s within $100/month of the really nice place that FCD liked, but I prefer it because it’s less than 10 miles from us, rather than over 20, plus the hospital and most of the doctors are in Leonardtown. It’s a 4-story building and the units that will be available next month are all on the 3rd floor. It’s a gated community and you need a fob to get into the lobby of the buildings, so it’s pretty secure. It’s surrounded by trees on 3 sides. Anyway, he’s filling out an application right now. But even if they end up in the farther place, 20-ish miles is better than 800…
As for the FL house - MIL said the buyers were there about an hour - that seems a good sign. Just waiting to see now…
Meanwhile, I’ve done nothing constructive all day, except figure out what UHaul would cost for a truck and a car carrier for a week.(Probably $1K)
And he just got a call - the apt that’s 20+ away looks like it’s a go.I think it’s the best choice - it’s a great layout and a really nice complex, plus close to DQ, which MIL likes.
OK, off to the thrift store to see if I can get some kid’s duds.
FCM Look into Penske too, for the truck rental. In my past experience, they were a bit more expensive daily rate, but cheaper on the mileage. Dunno if that’s still true.
Doggio, it seems to me that your workplace equipment breaks down a lot. Wouldn’t it make sense to upgrade to new hardware? Or would that violate company policy?
I read everything else but don’t remember, so yays, boos, hugs, etc.
Summer may be staggering off here too. We haven’t run the portable A/C units for 3 days, but aren’t willing to tempt fate by dragging them back into the basement just yet.
Been kinda busy here. Toosday our contractor came over and we got the french doors placed in the basement but after some discussion decided he needed some more stuff to finish the trim that he hadn’t brought with him. (He was supposed to come Monday but had an emergency.)
Wednesday the electricians came and installed a new, bigger service entrance with a main breaker. Now we will have room to add circuits for stuff we want to do in future.
Yesterday contractor came back with some trim boards and we finished up trimming out the new doors. I will post a picture if/when Wifey decides on what color to paint them. Maybe before. I dunno.
Today I think I’ll clean up all the bits of crap left laying about in the back yard, and maybe mow the yards. We’ll see.
Right now I need to get my pill organizer organized. Sigh.
Still pretty tired, but otherwise no problems from the flu shot. That’s a relief.
Buddy’s gained a couple of pounds since he adopted us (he does not appear overweight yet). Guess the abundant food and more sedentary lifestyle spending 18+ hours in 24 indoors suits him.
Penske is cheaper for the truck, but they don’t have the trailer for towing the car, alas. Plus UHaul has a dolly and the furniture blankets, and their available truck is a little bigger, which will help. So all I need is a date and I can reserve it.
FCD’s middle brother has been calling, wanting to know about this upcoming move, I guess. But if history is accurate, he’s calling to ask for stuff. He’s left 2 messages on my voicemail - the first call I ignored because he’s not in my contacts and I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize. The second time, I was checking out in a store and I wasn’t about to answer the phone. Plus I don’t want to talk to him. So there!
I stopped at the farm store for some cukes and the last of the 'maters, plus I grabbed some pears and a small watermelon. I miss the peaches, dammit. They were so good this year! Next year, I’ll see if I can get a bunch and freeze them.
Not sure what supper will be since we had a fairly substantial lunch. Maybe just the cukes and 'maters I just bought?
I also went to the thrift store and scored a couple of pairs of pants (jeans and khakis) for $2.50 each! It was half price day for orange tags!! I also got some jeans for Roxy and some pants and a T-shirt for Tobias at a buck a piece. So just over $8 for a bag of clothes. Cha-ching!!
Afternoon all. Swimming-n-Sauna have been completed, soccer will be coached in a couple of hours, then need to prepare for Sattiday (coach 2 games, then ref 2). Temperature is 79F so may fall below a high of 80F for the first time since…well, quite awhile.
Flyboy, good workout.
FCM, just remember not to drive the truck through Raleigh, NC…https://11foot8.com/ And nice to know you have an apartment ready, even if it’s a few extra miles.
OK, possible nappage coming up. All y’all take care.
Turns out BIL thinks his folks should move to Texas and live with them because he’s worried about them being stuck in an apartment here and being isolated. Because, of course, that’s why we’re bringing them here - to warehouse them in an apartment. FCD asked him how he proposes to move them to Texas, since they’ll probably be out of their house in about 2 weeks. crickets His brother is a flake and just a tad selfish. I’m sure he expected that we’d do all the work or his folks would do whatever was required to satisfy their middle son.
Not to mention that would be an added burden on his wife - not only would she be caring for a nearly blind spouse on dialysis, but she’d have to deal with her in-laws, and oh, by the way, she’s older than I am (mid-70s I think) so I’m sure she’d love the extra work.
As expected, he only calls when he wants something.
Howdy everyone. Getting ready for a hurricane. If it does what they say it will have to cross the state to affect me but going in a cat 3 will still put it a cat 1 by me and if it goes north that puts me on the dirty side. I stocked up on food, water and flashlights today. I am considering maybe getting some gas for the generator. I need to fill up my car and I have one tire that is low in air. I need to drive more often. Am just a homebody anymore.
Y’all remember a while back when I bought a TV for my old brother. He called today and told me he has a lawyer working a claim for money from the Camp Lejune (spelling) and since he had cancer it’s almost a sure thing that he will get…one and a half million dollars. I so hope that happens for him.
Everyone stay happy and healthy and safe. I am jealous of all y’all with the nice cool temps. Still hotter than two hells here.
Best of luck to all with machinery, moving, and weather.
I’m a bit headachy and fatigued (no temperature) so instead of finishing my syllabi I’ve been helping my lovely wife book a possible vacation in 2023, checking on packages that haven’t arrived yet, doing some kitchen tasks including making a GF EF DF quiche for dinner, and generally moving slowly.
Howdy Y’all! Been a nice day of sloth and general overall uselessness. I got the things done this mornin’ and we have cinnamon rolls. Majik intartoobz pizza and sallit were ingested for sup. All is good.
Pilot glad you had a good first sleep in the new digs.
MOOOOOOM sounds like the plan is comin’ together. I know y’all will be glad to get them up here and closer.
VanGo definitely charge the rush fee. Your time is worth it.
Bumba Sattidy mornin’ is my pill organizer day. I caffeinate whilst perusin’ the dope and the book of faces, organize my pills for the week, and then reward myself with more caffeine and breakin’ fast. It’s my busiest mornin’ of the week!
taters, I bought this one a while back as my daily driver bag. It holds my billfold, a pill bottle, keys, irk badge, a flashlight, phone and a few other small items. If I took out the billfold, there would be room in there for my 10" tablet out of its case.
VanGo, folks who have never done anything crafty have no clue as to the time and effort that goes into things. Charge them the rush fee because you’ll be backburnering other lucrative projects cranking this one out.
butters, I hope that this works out for your brother.
Housework is done, groceries bought and supper et. Tomorrow, I’ll go up to my SIL’s to spend a bit if time with her and the nephew. We’ll likely have coffee with my niece and her man. They just bought a house and are getting things around to move in the next month.
MIL cracks me up. She’s already packing most of their clothes, just leaving out a little to tide them over. Of all things to choose to pack… But I’m glad she’s getting excited about the move.
We’ll probably head down there next weekend. That should be my last trek to Fl unless we take our boat there.
FCM I’m picturing, on the last trip to floriduh, you taking the boat through the East coast waterway ala Great Canal Journeys (TV Series 2014– ) - IMDb. And I hope you have a wonderful time.
I picked up my filled aqualung today. When I got home, I asked The Missus what she wanted to do for dinner. ‘Paso del Norte?’ said she. ‘Chyah!’ said I. So we both had taco salads and a margarita each. I also had six (rather puny) hot wings.
Evening all. Soccer has been coached and tomorrow’s schedule should keep me busy (coaching at 8:30am and 11:00am, refereeing at 12:30 and 1:45pm, so should be at the field from 8am-3pm. At least the weather looks good, from mid 60’s to mid-70’s and no rain in sight.
suzie, hope it’s a good vacation; I expect 2023 will be crazy busy for the tourist industry (I have two trips already paid for).
Butters, just checked on the potential Hurricane; looks like a wet week for Florida; sounds like your Key West training will come in handy.
FCM, sounds like you got the best of the three brothers; glad your in-laws are coming your way, even if it increases the burden.
OK, need to work on lineups for soccer tomorrow and get all my stuff arranged so I don’t forget anything (I will anyway). Take care all.
