I’m quite familiar with the concept. It had no apparent connection to my argument, so I wrote it off as cryptic bullshit, and probably well-off-the-mark cryptic bullshit at that.
Anyway, it’s up to him to make his own rebuttal, rather than making a cryptic remark, expecting me to fill in the rest of his argument, and then my rebutting in turn the argument I’ve fleshed out for him.
Especially because I was likely to make a much better argument on his behalf than he would have made for himself, so I’d have had to work harder to rebut me acting for him, than I would have had to do to simply rebut him.
Assuming he cared to offer an argument in the first place, that is.

My six year old and me were talking about this the other day, so it’s funny you should bring it up. The conclusion that we came to was that namecalling was mean and immature. Because it creates rifts and diverts the discussion rather than building bridges of understanding, consensus and good will it was obvious to her that it was a tactic best not employed.
