My mother was on the steering committee that helped advise the creation of the museum and was at the dedication/opening.
Discussion of a museum would probably go in Cafe Society most of the time, but since this is going to be about people’s reactions to the event, I think it makes more sense to move it to MPSIMS.
ok- wasn’t sure. Thanks.
Shooter reported as James von Brunn, b. 1920 (!). A confirmed white suprmeecist.
Ok, who the FUCK is the guy from the DC radio station who is contributing to CNN’s coverage? He sounds like a fucking lunatic!! Anyone??
I had a feeling this was an anti-semitism thing as opposed to a political thing. (We had a short argument about this at work.) Never would have guessed the shooter was pushing 90, though. Here’s hoping the guard pulls through and we at least find out why this guy did this.
here’s a link to the shooter’s website
http://www.holywesternempire.org/page2.html
Based on his record, he did it because he’s a hard-core supremist lifer.
Betcha that site is overloaded by now. [Nope, not yet]
And a white supremacist WWII veteran, too. I mean, I knew there had to be some, but it’s very weird if you think about it.
I got in, but it took a bit of time. There’s a clock somewhere that’s missing it’s cuckoo.
There is also a Pit thread going, in case things get heating in here…
they are reporting that the security guard is dead. very sad.
there was to be a special event at the musuem tonight. (they are reporting that museum will be closed tonight and tomorrow, at the very least.)
They were to have a play tonight, too. So sad about the guard. What a crime.
I understand that two women who were going to speak in the auditorium about being survivors gave their talk to some frightened families with children in a hallway instead.
Those women are nails.
I’m speechless. Talk about an object lesson in how antisemitism and irrational hatred are alive and well in our world today, that it’s not just something that happened in the past.
Words fail.
Wow. What courage and self-possession to be able to do the necessary in that situation.
I was a the museum on May 8. When I heard about the shooting I couldn’t believe it was the same place as there are guards all over the place. What I want to know is how did he get into the building carrying a rifle? Someone outside had to see him coming, I’m sure. Sorry to hear about the guard who passed away.
My understanding is that he didn’t really “get into” the building. A guard opened the door for him, not yet seeing the gun, and he immediately started shooting, hitting and killing that guard first of all.
