Shooting blanks (vasectomy questions)

Having all the children we want, my wife & I decided it was logical for one of us to get fixed. A vasectomy is the cheap, quick, and easiest way, and I intend on going through it. However, I have some questions that I’d like answered by someone who has (or knows who has) had one. I feel a doctor might sugar coat the truth.

First: Are there any real complications? What’s the worst thing that could happen? Walk with a limp for the rest of my life?

2)I’ve heard that there is a possibility of the vas deferns growing back after several years making the man fertile again. Has this ever happened? How many men has it happened to? I would hate for 20 years from now having a middle aged pregnant wife. We oppose abortion.

  1. What exactly does the male ejaculate look like when a man’s been snipped? Is it clear? Or does it look the same?

okay, that’s a weird question, but I’d really like some input on #1 & #2.

1.—Nothing

  1. Never-if it’s done properly and, even then,probably,nothing.

  2. Same as before

Be damned sure to wait sufficiently long after the operation to insure that there aren’t any ‘stragglers’ lurking about.

And have a lab check to be sure they’re all gone.

There are a few different complications that can happen. Some of these are:

It is rare, but i had one that caused pain and had to go in to have it excised. No problem since.

Less than 1% of vasectomies fail due to not being done properly or spontaneous reconnection.

It looks exactly the same.

The procedure itself is not too bad at all. Usually very quick with a quick recovery. I was sexually active the next day.(Bad thing to do. Don’t follow my example!;)) Was running/cycling again in a few weeks.

The very worst part, IMHO–the nurse who will come in and shave your entire scrotum. One of those amazing real-life experiences. Mine said, jovially, scraping away, “Boy, you must really love your wife, to do this for her.”

Plus, it grows in scratchy and uncomfortable and weird. You’ll be sore for a few days, too. If you’re having it done on an outpatient basis, arrange to have somebody drive you home, or take a cab, because you’ll come hobbling out of there very slowly, like a crippled old man, and you won’t feel like driving anywhere.

Be prepared for a less-than-stellar sex life for a week or two. But after that–well, if one half of the team was always subconsciously worried about birth control failure, or if you were using sponges or inserts or diaphragms, where you have to stop and put the thing in, be prepared for about a 200% increase in spontaneity. Not to mention the aving, and never having to worry about running out of Trojans or diaphragm gel or whatever.

There are less complications for a vasectomy than for a woman’s tubal ligation, which is why we went for it.

And if the reason you’re doing it is because you really don’t want any more kids, spend the extra money for the 6-week sperm count, just to be sure.

If you get a reasonably competent doctor who does lots of these, you shouldn’t have any problems about the vas deferens growing back.

Oh, and it looks the same afterwards, which is why guys have always been able to tell women, “It’s okay, honey, you won’t get pregnant, I had a vasectomy,” and they have to believe it, because there’s no way to tell.

We talked about this before, try a search here for Vasectomy…also webmd.com

Had it done at age 50. No big deal. No complications.
