Thanks to all my doper supporters. My daughter has asked me to thank you all for everything. She said you guys are “kick ass”. (the shy awkwardness doesn’t extend to the home).
The school is AWESOME. I’m not exagerating. The 12th grade tour guide made that school sound like a freaking Utopia. She was really cool and open and informative.
We saw the VP, but you know something? I felt a weird, squirmy discomfort around him…as if I was embarrassed for him. I couldn’t look at him. Strange.
They had all her shit together when we got there. Her schedule, lock combination, folder fulll of stuff. We picked up her books and we nearly got her ID pic taken, but the line was so long that they said we can all do it first day of school if we like (first day of school is this Friday, which is odd.)
So, watching her face was great. She showed laser like focus when they were explaining things to her. For one final brag, she really is the kind of kid who deserves great things to happen. I really am happy to see her character develop the way it has. I marvel at it sometimes.

Great stuff. Having been around a bureacracy or three, there’s no percentage in trying to take on the VP. You won already. he’ll probably get his due and vanish without a trace one of these years, and that’s good enough.
Hope Little Zing loves it there and has a great exprience until she goes to University 'cause of course that’s where she is headed, right?
I’m thinking maybe the letter was sent in error and he tried to stonewall your daughter “out of principle” and eventually his superiors decided that, like Shodan said, the situation was more trouble than it was worth. So the VP’s probably embarrassed about having his authoritah ignored when everyone went over his helmet and like Dio suggested, I’d watch out that he doesn’t give your kid any shit. That being said, I wouldn’t try to start any shit with him. If you can all just pretend that that never happened that would be the best result imo (as much as you might want to rub it in his face, the important thing now is that kiddo has an easy time at school - I’m sure you know that).

I came in too late to really offer better advice but I went through a similar-ish situation this summer (regarding a specific honors class my daughter wanted to take, had all the pre-reqs for and didn’t get into) so the thread really touched me. I won too, essentially by following the exact advice Shodan gave.
I’m so happy your daughter is getting to follow her dream! BTW, it’s the perfect opportunity for the, “I love you, believe in you and support you, that’s why I went to bat for you. If you mess up this opportunity, the one YOU wanted, I will be mighty disappointed,” speech. Go gloat to her, you deserve it.
