Should I buy a wedding gift also?

My husband and I are driving to north Arkansas this Friday because he’s a groomsman in a wedding of a friend of ours. It’s about a 6 hour drive and we’re paying for two nights in a hotel. I estimate that the cost of this trip to run about $250.

Should we buy the couple a gift also? I’m not sure what the protocol is on this.

Every wedding I’ve been in, the people in the wedding part also gave a gift. I also seem to remember that wedding protocal says you have a year to send the gift, so if the money from the trip sets you back, there is time to get it later.
