Should I get my eyebrow pierced?

Okay, so I’ve seriously been pondering getting my left eyebrow pierced, and I have a few questions for anyone who may have had it done, and an opinion question that anyone can answer.

For those who’ve had it done:
How much does it hurt?
What kind of price could I expect to pay?
What should I look for in a piercing place? So far all I have pierced is my earlobes and two cartilage holes in my left ear, and I got them done at the piercing pagoda at the mall.
How do you feel about your piercing? Do you like it? Was it a good experience, etc.?

And for anyone to answer, how do you think I would look with an eyebrow piercing?

Here are a few pictures.

So you can judge. Would it work with my face? I have a feeling it would but I’m notoriously a bad judge of stuff like that. And if I do get it – ring, or barbell? Which would look better?

I tried asking friends about this, and they are no help. They just go “whatever you want.” and are pretty useless.

I think you’d look prettier without one. You have a great face and I think attention would be detracted from it to the piercing, FWIW.

I think that if you don’t know yourself what the answers are (as to the should I get one or not questions), then no, you should not get one.

Also, and I am just curious about this:
how would a eyebrow piercing work with eyeglasses?
Wouldn’t you need a bar as a hoop will get in the way?

Anyhow, best of luck to ya, and if you decide to do it, go to a professional piercer.

Well, don’t go to the mall for this one.

  1. What kind of price could I expect to pay? My cartilage was $30.00 with the ring, each time.
  2. What should I look for in a piercing place?
    A. Experienced, knowledgeable staff. Staff will likely be multiply pierced.
    B. Ask to see the autoclave if possible. If they say they don’t have one, this may not be the place to go.
    C. Ask about after care and healing times before you get the piercing done. They should have this available on a printed sheet for you to take home. They should also have after care products for sale.
    D. Clean, private room for the piercing. You should notice
  3. a lot of single-use supplies: rubber gloves, cotton swabs, markers for marking the piercing site. If it appears that the piercer has used the same gloves for you as for the last client, this may not be the place to go.
  4. Conspicuously placed certificates from the board of health, any professional certificates, etc.

The piercer can probably tell you if the location you want is too difficult (eg, if you want it too close to your eye, too far back) and should be able to work with you to get a location you want.

If you’re near Philadelphia, go to Infinite on 4th Street. They did my ear (cartilage) in two spots. They do pretty much any piercable part of your body, and they will probably tell you if the piercing isn’t viable for you (friend of mine got told that a navel piercing wouldn’t work for her). They have lovely printed brochures explaining all kinds of piercings and how to care for them.

Another thing to consider is to time the piercing and healing around any events where it might be a liability (eg, job interview).

N.B. They don’t use a gun. They use a three-sided needle and a little elbow grease (at least they did for my ear).

Enjoy!

No, you shouldn’t do it. I didn’t look at your pictures, but an eyebrow ring doesn’t look good on anyone, so I assume it wouldn’t look good on you.

My opinion, of course…

My two cents:

How much does it hurt?
Similar or less than ear cartilage. It’s also similar in that most of the pain comes after the actual piercing.

What kind of price could I expect to pay?
This varies greatly. I’ve seen prices between $25 and $80 in my area.

What should I look for in a piercing place?
This FAQ has a lot of good advice on that particular subject.

How do you feel about your piercing? Do you like it? Was it a good experience, etc.?
When I first got it (I was 13) I loved it. Now I almost hate it (still have it, though), and don’t really like them in general.

Should you do it? I dunno. Myself, I wouldn’t do it again, but it’s your face, and your call.

My advice is if you’re concerned about how you’d look or what other people think, you’re not ready for the piercing. Don’t do it yet. What? You can’t wait? Then you’re really not ready.

I’m not even going look at your picture. If you need my/our advice, then you shouldn’t get one.

It not only takes “the right face” to look good with an eyebrow piercing, it also takes the right personality. If you’re unsure about it, it’s going to look dorky.

An eyebrow piercing isn’t as permanent as a tattoo tho, so if you get it peirced within the eyebrow hair, it wouldn’t show so much if you change your mind later.

You might have a black eye for a few days. It might hurt a lot. Depends on your pain threshold. Might possibly (ok, very rare) go into shock & pass out or something embarrassing. Can’t swim for 4-6 months. Can’t take it out for about the same time period. You let it get infected, you’re going to have a nasty scar. Sooner or later you’re going to want to take it out for at least awhile. You’ll have a hole though your eyebrow. Can you handle that in every conceivable situation? School? Job interview? Family? Weddings? Friends & future lovers you haven’t even met yet? Your children/grandchildren? Your friend’s & family’s children & grandchildren?

You’ve thought about it a lot & still want to do it? Go for it. Can be fun. Nobody’s died from an eyebrow piercing (I think).

no

listen up, i’ll give you the best advice…just think about it…thats alll you gotta do…i think its cheesy and trendy, lame-o…but thats me…to clear a few things up, it pinches and doesnt hurt, its over too fast…second, if you take it out dont listen to levdrakon, it wont leave a damn hole, you’ll barely see it…yes if it gets banged up you may have a scar, my wife does, but big deal…
as it was said, if you cannot make up your own mind, think harder and wait…take wbout 60 or 70 bucks to be sure, jewlry isnt free…

First of all, as far as scars go, I already have a bit of a scar in that eyebrow, basically a place where no eyebrow hairs grow, from where my best friend hit me in the face with a stick a couple years back, broke my glasses frames and they gouged out a bit of my forehead. You can kind of see it in the second linked pic, but it’s right about where the piercing would go, so I’m not really scared of scarring.

As for my glasses, I only really wear them when I’m too lazy to put in my contacts, and they usually sit far enough away from my face that they shouldn’t bother a piercing.

As far as “If you have to ask, don’t do it,” that seems silly to me. I like to consider all the angles I can before making a decision as big as poking a hole in my face. I don’t know anyone who’s had their eyebrow pierced, and I would like to hear stories from some who have, figure out what the experience would be like. I’m trying to get some background on the procedure, so I know what I might be getting myself into.

As far as asking for opinions on how it would look, I think of it the same as it would be asking an honest friend if a shirt I’m considering buying looks good on me, or if these jeans make my butt look big. I may end up disregarding their opinions anyways, but it’s always good to see what other people think.

I’ve been thinking about this for several months. If everything works out as planned, I’m likely going to be moving to Rochester, NY this summer (moving in with the stick-wielding friend from the first paragraph, actually. ) and I think that if I do get it I would like to have it before I go looking for a job up there, so I won’t be barred from getting it later by job restrictions.

I do feel that it would look good, it would be interesting, and would fit with my personality very well. But I am a notoriously bad at making decisions. I hate decisions. I like to consider all angles and get others’ opinions before I do so, which was the whole purpose of this thread.

I just posted this website on another thread and if you haven’t visited this site yet, you should:

www.bmezine.com

Warning: the cover page has a picture on it, and sometimes the picture may be bloody or of someone heavily pierced. Just in case anyone wants to avoid seeing that.

I had my eyebrow pierced at one point. I liked it. It didn’t hurt, it was just an odd sensation (the needle under my skin). It has left two tiny indentations, but they are flesh coloured and not noticeable to anyone but me.

It cost me $50 Canadian, and I went to a reputable piercing shop. Read up on what to look for in a piercer/piercing studio at the website I mentioned above. The information there is extensive.

Are you looking for opinions or validation? If you are just looking for validation, please don’t read this. If you are looking for honest opinions, please do read this:

Ugh. I am so tired of seeing eyebrow piercings. You say, “it would be interesting.” No, it wouldn’t. They looked kind of interesting about 5 years ago maybe. I see eyebrow piercings and I think “mallrat.”

Another nay vote, based solely on personal opinion. I don’t think it would work with your face. However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a chick on which an eyebrow piercing would look good. Guys, on the other hand. . . <insert lecherous smiley here>

(Seriously, though, I don’t advise it. It’s a hole on your face, one you might have to justify at, oh, say, a job interview or something. Plus–OW!).

Piercings are, like, soooooo last millennium.

My fiance has three gold rings through his left eyebrow (http://www.well.com/~scraps/soren13.jpg), at the outer edge, and I think they look beautiful on him, so I’m a bit biased in favor of multiple gold rings. My concerns are mostly practical:

  • What’s the weather like? (Hats, scarves, things rubbing or rasping against them as they heal, etc.)

  • What’s your healing pattern like? Have you had piercings that grow out? Soren’s haven’t, over six years, but I have friends whose brow piercings have grown out.

  • Are you a facial fidgeter? I am the sort of person who scratches her temples with pens, for example, which is a bit riskier with rings. Do you spend a lot of time brushing your hair from out of your face?

  • Do you sleep on your side? If so, the first few weeks, brace yourself for less sleep.

I think it would look good on you, either a ring or a barbell, for what it’s worth. And EVERYTHING people have said about reputable piercers, autoclaves, needles rather than piercing guns, etc., emphatically applies for facial piercings.

Another no vote here.

Nope here 2

I say go for it. Life is too short not to do what you want.

Piercings are lame. Another nay.

Intro: I’m into piercings - but you can’t see any of mine when I have clothes on (except for my ears, of course).

Personally, if you have to ask us if you should, then the answer is no, you should not. I got my piercing(s) because I like the experience of being pierced, not because I care what someone else thinks about how it looks.

If you must do it, however:[ul]
[li]research it to death - I like www.piercing.org (and, actually, Brian Skellie III did my piercing(s)).[/li][li]if the piercing shop you go to doesn’t have an autoclave - run, don’t walk out of there[/li][li]in Atlanta, expect to pay upwards of $80 PLUS TIP for a surgical-like environment with a very experienced piercer[/li][li]you are very pretty, but your glasses would not look good with it[/li][li]personally, I think the barbells are nasty and would get a nice CBR[/li][/ul]
That’s just my $0.02. Take it for what it’s worth.
