I rarely use Google Earth Pro. I downloaded it a decade or so ago, as I needed it for a class. Still, it’s useful if I want to get a quick straight-line distance between points. ISTR that it also has historical photos so that you can see how a location changed over the years. When I open the app, I am told there is a new version, and given the option to download it. When I click Download, I get this:
404. That’s an error.
The requested URL /earth/about/download/ge/agree.htmlwas not found on this server. That’s all we know.
I by googling Google Earth Pro download, I see that I can download version 7.3. I’m currently using version 7.3.2.5776 (64-bit). Should I download this version; or just use what I have? (I’m inclined toward the latter.)
Why not download the latest? It’s still free, it still works, and it still has the historical photography (which the web version doesn’t have). But whatever, if you prefer your old version and it still works fine except for the missing link, go ahead and stay with it?
I don’t think Google Earth (the desktop version) is very actively maintained anyway, so you’re not missing out on major new features anyway.
PS If you just want the straight-line distance between two points, Google Maps can do that too (just right-click anywhere and choose “Measure distance”).
That’s good to know. ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ My version does more than what I need it to (I don’t even do the historical photos thing – I’d have to google how to do it), so I’ll leave it as it is.
