Should I try out for "The Biggest Loser"?

I see in the paper here that “The Biggest Loser” is holding open tryouts for its next season this Saturday. I’ve never watched TBL and know only the bare outlines about it, but I’m considering trying out for the show.

I am more than a hundred pounds overweight, although I carry it well. I’ve been on Weight Watchers for a couple of months and have lost about 25 pounds, but I’d like to kick it into high(er) gear.

So my question is, what can you folks tell me about the show? If I were to get picked, what should I expect to face? Also, does anybody know how long of a time commitment it would be? I haven’t been able to track that information down.

I’m interested in this question.

I’m fat, I have my own issues, but I’ve lost significant weight on my own. (Eat less, exercise more–more veggies, fewer fried foods. I can do it, I just don’t always stick with it.)

I work with a young man in his early twenties that is scary bad overweight. He doesn’t eat veggies. At all. I’m guessing he’s nudging 375.

Since I’ve known him over the years, he’s eaten a few slices of tomato and one slice of fried (yes, fried–you have to start somewhere) zucchini.

He asks for the lettuce to be taken off a big mac. (The honest truth.)

He does like The Biggest Loser as a tv show and would try out for it. (We talk about it and I asked him). But he’s helping his family (father died a few months ago) with expenses and worries about how would they do if he didn’t work.

I’m thinking one has to be paid scale or something for those shows.

I’d see if I could get hold of some tapes of the show to watch. Last series I watched the guys were really overweight. 100 pounds may not be enough.

Let me tell you something, the fact that you posted the question here means you WANT to do this.

GO DO IT!!!

50 years we’ll all be dead and ain’t no one gonna remember. much less care you are overweight. (Unless of course the show goes into I Love Lucy like reruns.

Life’s too short not to try something like this. If it works fine, if not, so what? Take a book on tape and wait in line

Then come back here and tell us what it was like

Well, I haven’t had one single person I’ve mentioned this to so far say that I shouldn’t do it, so I guess I have a long day ahead of me waiting in line in the Texas sun this Saturday.

They’re especially looking for couples who both need to lose over 100 pounds, and my wife wants to try out for the show too. I certainly don’t want to discourage her, but oh my gosh the logistics of being on a reality show are going to be ten times harder if we both do it. I sure wish I could just find out WHEN and HOW LONG we’d need to arrange for someone to take care of our kids… y’know… BEFORE we wait in the sun for hours and hours.

Aren’t there any blogs by former contestants? The information must be out there somewhere.
