I opened a thread on MPSIMS about an internet board taking revenge on a person who dealt with one of the members unjustly. It had both amusing and alarming elements. I admit it had the potential to get out of hand.
Should **Cajun Man ** have closed it? His reasoning seems to be specious. I am aware of no such policy. I think he made it up.
I really am not up for an argument on this. The issue is fairly minor. Still, when I tried to send a PM on this, I got some sort of error message, and so here we are.
I think I have seen similar closures on the basis of “let sleeping boards lie,” don’t tempt someone into making a contribution that causes posters on the other board to feela grudge about the SDMB.
I don’t think anyone believes trhat you meant any harm. It would make a better discussion somewhere else, maybe even GD, as a hypothetical. How moral would it be for Dopers to harass another Doper that has committed some wrong?
Yeah, that was part of it. We’ve had Dopers invading other boards, and other boards invading the SDMB, and husband and wife arguments. Mostly our policy is “If you have a beef with someone else, complain to that entity, and don’t drag the SDMB into it.” I, for one, don’t believe that you meant any harm, or intended to violate the board rules, but it is against policy.
I hesitate to post after Lynn, but those of us who were around for New Years Eve a few years back remember how disastrous this was. A now-banned member here had gone to the former Left Behind books discussion board and was talking about what had happened there in a thread in Great Debates. The result was a massive incursion of members there “retaliating for the invasion.” While good things eventually happened from it all, no one ever wants to see a repeat of that.
There was also an ongoing attack from a, uh, caucasian supremacist board with a name analogous to Line Squall which for good reasons I will not post the actual name of, which caused the staff some endless heartache and frustrated a lot of members by disrupting good discussions.
