Should Sudan be invaded?

If the Sudanese government is guilty of genocide, should it be invaded by a coalition of the willing?

What coalition of the willing?

It seems from Powell’s recent statements that the US MIGHT be positioning itself to either invade or to at least escallate our involvement. I have no idea if the current US coalition would be involved IF the US decided to take a more active role in the Sudan…and no idea how Europe would react either. Certainly I’ve seen no sign that Europe (or anyone else) is willing to take the initiative on this and do more than talk about it (I could be wrong here as I haven’t followed Europes involvement or how the wind is currently blowing there).

SHOULD the US invade the Sudan to restore peace by force of arms? Loaded question. I think someone should, but I don’t think the US is the optimal choice at this time for several reason. First off, we are already committed in Iraq and it would be a huge drain on us to invade into the Sudan at this time. Secondly there is oil in the Sudan, and I can just hear the howls of anguish if the US invaded ANOTHER oil rich nation. Third, the Sudan is predominently muslim, so not only would we hear the howls of anguish that the US is invading an oil rich nation, but that its invading another MUSLIM oil rich nation.

However, if the US is the only one willing to go (I don’t know if they are or not…I’m saying IF), then I would support it…it needs to be done.

Here’s another reason not to start elective wars for dubious reasons: When a good reason to use your military pops up, your forces are already committed elsewhere.
