And so? I honestly don’t understand what you’re hinting at.
It’s 10-year-old boy humor. “huh huh, you said taint.” AKA the slang word for the part of the male body between the balls and anus.
Haha, very funny.
Also the part of a women’s body between the vagina and the anus. It’s a mildly lewd term.
Back on topic, for those who don’t know the New Pornographers, here’s a documentary about their rise and rise (or at least the trailer for the documentary).
Note for anyone who doesn’t click videos - that’s the music video for TNP song “Moves”, not a link to a trailer for an actual documentary. The music video is a parody trailer for a band biopic starring a bunch of comedians as the band.
Also note, though he is not seen in the video, that the drummer on that song is Kurt Dahle, the old one. I stopped going to New Pornographers shows after he quit the band (not for any reasons related to the topic, of course, as I wouldn’t have known, but because I loved his drumming so much and felt nobody could replace him.) I did see one show with the new guy in 2014, but that’s because I had tickets before Kurt announced he had quit. The new guy was serviceable, but not the same. Well, I didn’t imagine this to happen. I’m ambivalent about whether they should change the name, and I have no feeling one way or another whether they will. Poor children and talk about an unfortunate aptronym.
I feel sorry for the old drummer. Unless one is a fan, all that most people have heard is that the drummer for The New Pornographers was arrested for child porn. They don’t know names or the band history. If it were me, I think I would quickly remove that part from my resume.
Ouch, that’s an aspect I hadn’t considered yet. Could be very hard for him.
It’s too bad they didn’t change their name decades ago. I know fans who would love to buy the band’s merch but don’t because they can’t wear a shirt with the word ‘pornographers’ on it around their young kids.
And thinking about the band’s future, even if they change the name to something like ‘AC Newman & Friends,’ every reference in the media will still have to use the phrase ‘formerly The New Pornographers’ somewhere.
There’s really no getting past that word!
