Show us Something Cool About Your Place

You’re going to add hand rails to those stairs, right? I don’t want to rain on your cool handiwork, but stairs like that scare the hell out of me, after my mother-in-law died after falling backwards off her rail-less stairs and hitting her head on the sidewalk.

Absolutely, just thinking about what materials to use. I would have made the stairs less steep but was constrained by not wanting to block the flagstone path. The local building code requires railings on each side because of the width of the stairs.

So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law’s tragic demise.

@moes_lotion , love those railway rails bookends. Very cool!

I love the bookends too! I have to admit, my first thought was, “Professor Plum, in the library, with a bookend…” :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

Is there a reason the rain barrels couldn’t be next to the house ?
(Looks cool though !)

Another feature of our house is this tomb in the backyard. One of the occupants drowned in 1904 trying to pull his beloved from the river. They both perished. Every year on or about the anniversary, we host a party where we drown our sorrows. I create a new cocktail for the party each year.

Threadwinner! I am so jealous.

The cocktails have been hit or miss. But last year, someone from the family showed up out of the blue and asked to see the tomb, he had the same name as the person we celebrate at our parties; I chickened out telling him about our festivities.

The lot is narrow, so there isn’t room at either of the back corners of the house for the barrels. We got a landscaper to design the layout and he suggested the position, they’re about 1/3 of the way from the back of the house to the back of the lot.

That is awesome.

If you ever kill somebody put the body under there. The cops will never think to look there.

Besides cocktails, you could add Satanic rituals. Yes, yes, yes; bad taste! Warm up the handbasket for me.

Fair enough ! :+1:

I’m thinking of the overnight goat party / ceremony for the PAGANs in the Dragnet movie:

We’re gonna need a bigger basket.

Wow that’s pretty wild and very unique!

Here’s the thread where the awesome Dope helped me find the exact date of their deaths. My wife was very impressed with how quickly the Dope found it. Our party is next week.

A hundred and twenty one years later, people all over the world are reading this and thinking about Will and Gladys. I bet they didn’t foresee that when they were putting their shoes on that morning.

We call the party Billy Rust Day and the cocktail always pay homage to them: the garnish will include a capsized canoe (orange peel, mint leaf etc.) and two berries to represent the drowned lovers. At the end of the night someone drinks a bud lite to commemorate how they died because a bud light is a lot like sex in a canoe: fucking close to water.

That is a GIANT-ass tomb.

Delightfully bad taste all around. I approve.

This is a picture taken from our deck with a cell phone. No zoom. That’s Mount Bross. 14000 feet.
