Here’s a sample of my photography.
I love! What’s the medium? Have you created any other pieces?
I particularly love “Flower Clouds” and “Sleep”. Do you show at any galleries?
They’re acrylics. Those are my only 2 efforts.
I only have a DeviantArt page (I know, I know) but it has on it a decent amount of my vector work and photography, along with a piece of short fiction. I’d appreciate any feedback.
Here are some “best of” cartoons in my sig:
I’m pretty happy with this one.
I was also very happy with how this came out (a little more risque…).
Hmm… what else… ooh! I’m proud of dissaone too…
Ah well.
Man, those are fantastic.
When you’re drawing something like that, do you essentially picture it in your mind, and then draw it from your mind’s picture? Or do you just sort of start drawing and let the picture take shape as it goes?
I can see myself getting to the point where I can draw things that I can see pretty well, like that self portrait. But I can’t begin to imagine how you draw something that has never existed before, especially something as different and imaginative as some of these drawings.
The drawing posted here is my design for an engagement ring. I had it cast in platinum and set with a nice stone. She said yes!
Sam Stone, I can always see the whole object I’m drawing as though it were a 3-D object in my head. I can rotate it, spin it, and if I really concentrate, shine a light on it. Then I “freeze” the image – the hardest part! – and as I draw little bits, my mind’s eye zooms in on the detail I’m sketching. My biggest problem is when the details are each shaped correctly but the overall scale is wrong. For example, in the ring design above, the real ring is significantly “chunkier” due to the limitations of the medium.
Jebus, I am in awe. I can’t suck up my whole work day looking at these masterpieces, but props to:
dangergene - the cartoon style is edgy and leaps off the page
paulbeserker - I dig the starkness and urban style and can’t wait for the comic book
Cuckoorex - Dinosaurs rock!
Gaudere - especially like the black and white charcoals
and SPOOFE - I think I see a Richard Corbin influence here
Who does castings from drawings?
Or did you do a CAD model?
Or did you carve that out of wax and send it to a caster?
I don’t think the medium (and by medium, I only mean “platinumn”) should limit that design. Perhaps the process going from your drawing to the platinum would. But the medium itself shouldn’t limit that.
PS.
Please ignore the “about the artist” page.
I haven’t updated in a while and if you do check it out, you’ll probably know why.
Try it now.
Those are great. You should do some flash for tattoo shops. They’d probably buy it up.
SPOOFE, those are wonderful. I remember seeing your work a few years ago, and while it was good then, it’s dramatically improved over the years. Great job! And what a twisted imagination you have! I love it!
Everyone here is really good, all in a different way. Wow!
Sam Stone, I keep on meaning to tell you that you are 100% right about being able to bring out this ability through work and practice. That’s what I tell people all the time. Sure, talent is an element, but drawing is a skill that almost anyone can learn. I think your self-portrait is quite good and shows a great deal of potential and the “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” book is probably one of the best books you can get if yyou want to develop this skill.
Regarding drawing from memory–I do a lot of “from imagination” portraits and figures. For me it took a lot of practice and some study of artistic anatomy. But mostly, it was just the practice–drawing from life, drawing from photos, sketching people while watching them on TV–I did all of it. (I could draw “imaginary” faces long before I studied anatomy, because I drew so many portraits. The figures took longer, and I won’t say that I am 100% satisfied with my figure work, but it’s okay.)
Well, I can’t narrow it down, so here’s a link to my eBay store, Flaming River Art.
This is only my photographic work; someday soon I’ll have my paintings available too.
Heh, this thread was my motivation.
Site now updated!
Thanks, ZebraShaSha.
