Shows with a "stupid" character.

I’ve got an episode of an old show in my head and I need help figuring out what it is.

This show had one stupid character. Sort of like Joey on Blossom, although I don’t think that’s the show I’m looking for. What other show had one token “idiot” who’d always say stupid things? Probably late 80s/early 90s, I’d think, but maybe a bit more recent.

Specifically, there was an episode in which the stupid guy discovered that lack of sleep made him smarter, so he avoided sleep as long as possible and was about to come up with some grand scientific theory… when he passed out.

Any ideas?

I saw a show Thursday night (9:00 - 9:30 Eastern time) that had one stupid character.

For some reason, the character Boner from *Growing Pains *(as mentioned by Happy Lendervedder) immediately came to mind.

I got nothing.

I’ve checked the list of shows you guys have given me but nothing seems quite right. Many of those, I never watched.

In the particular episode stuck in my head, there was also a side story about a character who had a van/camper in the backyard… maybe living in it temporarily?

I believe the show you are referring to is Step by Step . Cody, the stupid character who lives in a van in the back yard, is just about to tell them the meaning of life when he passes out.
