Shows you binged recently

Based on the Movies you seen recently thread,

Particularly shows that you have completed. This will be tough for longer ongoing series, but easy for short series. Please lets us know where you were able to stream it.

I will start off with two.

Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story on Netflix and Jared from Subway: Catching a Monster on ID.

The Jimmy Saville is 2 episodes, but it seems much longer. It is the more horrific of the 2 stories, but is a textbook example of how to make a compelling subject dull. It took me several tries to get through it.

Jared from Subway is 3 episodes but moves much quicker than the Savile show. We watched it all in one sitting. I remember his arrest but I though it was a case of him just having child images on his PC. Not so. They got the goods on him. They actually play the recordings of phone calls made between him and radio talk show jock he somehow though me made a connection with. She was repulsed, started recording him and went to the FBI. It was difficult to listen to. He thinks he is grooming her to get a shot at her kids, talks about his past experience with kids, sex tourism, gives her tips on grooming her kids friends, etc…

It was well done. I will not watch it again.

This topic seems to overlap quite a bit with the “Series you’ve recently watched, are now watching or have given up on” one.

The Jared one was really good but I had no idea how much of a monster he was. And, you have to remember that this is all (mostly) one person’s account. To be clear, I’m not calling her story into question, I’m saying there’s probably more people like her with their own stories.

I just watched Beef over the course of a few days. I’m not 100% on board with what put the entire thing into motion, but looking beyond that, it was a good show and I wouldn’t mind seeing them do something more with it. Though I’d prefer an anthology type thing, we don’t need more of Amy and Danny. I think this article made some good points about that.

As much as I want to see more of Ali Wong and Steve Yeun, they’ve told Amy and Danny’s story to its perfect, satisfying end.

That said, I would fully support Beef done in an anthology style with a whole new set of characters — a different beef in a different place, with two new people destined to ruin their lives over someone they hate. I wouldn’t even be the slightest bit opposed to Wong and Yeun coming back and playing different characters.

And, of course Pokerface. I mean, it was Columbo, right down to the raspy voice, the brown cigarettes (similar to his cigars) and the ‘one more thing’ part, but they did a great job. I hope they find a way to keep it entertaining.

I’m currently binging a bit on Freevee. So I’m watching The Detectorists and Corner Gas, both of which have been mentioned on the SDMB.

I did go through Sprung. It’s by Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl) and is about several convicts who are sprung out of prison due to Covid. Jack (Garret Dillahunt) wants to go straight, but ends up joining a group of inept criminal and becomes the mastermind, though insisting they act like Robin Hoods. Very funny take with Garcia’s talent for offbeat lower-class characters and a look on early Covid insanity.

I’ve started Time Wasters about a Black jazz band that is transported in a dodgy time machine to 1926.

Stargate SG-1

We are currently binging “The Outer Limits” on Roku. Lots of recognizable stars show up multiple times. Some stories are really good.
Some truly awful special effects.
