I woke up on Dec. 12 with the soreness. It continued, got more red, and then my ears got stuffy. Then the red turned to red and white, and the misery increaseth.
On the evening of Dec. 14, I hauled myself to Urgent Care. They discovered swollen lymph glands and pink/red inside the ears as well as the throat.
So here I am with amoxicillin, and there is nothing else I can do except continue to throw the arsenal at it: Airborne, tea with honey, gargling with warm salt water, running the humidifier, Sucrets, acetaminophen. Oh, and acidophilus, since antibiotics and I don’t get along very well.
Got any holiday illness or injury misery to share? The miserable love company, you know.
Shorter version. Last December we passed a bug around our house.
First I was sick–no holiday involved.
Then Dad was sick–on Christmas Day. No leg of lamb for him! Also no church, and no helping put a jigsaw puzzle together.
Then Grandma was sick–between Christmas and New Years. Also while traveling. And her diarrhea didn’t want to stop. (All of us had some quantity of diarrhea and vomitting).
Then Mom was sick–New Years Day. When she was scheduled to volunteer in the nursery at church. So Dad volunteered me to sub for her. No big deal–2 nursery workers, 2 volunteers-- no kids, or at least, fewer kids than workers. No problems. We just sat in rocking chairs and chatted until the service ended, and the next volunteers showed up.
When I was 10 years old, I had a terrible bout with herpes stomatitis . I was in the ER on December 23 with a 104 degree fever. I missed out on my entire Christmas vacation because I was in bed, frequently delirious and always unable to eat. It sucked.
I recently had a severe allergic reaction to a medication that I take. It caused a severe rash that left my whole body looking like I had a second-degree sunburn. Now all my skin is peeling off. It’s disgusting, I itch, and I look freakish.
