Just got this latest addition to my .sig from unclviny:
Now, the question is whether the f%^k is acceptable in the sig. Should I leave it like that, change all four to “^#”, just put in “fuck” (as everyone knows what it is anyway and probably substitutes it in their heads), or drop this as a sig altogeher?
If you include it in your signature then the text would appear in every forum in which you post, and while the occasional use of “fuck” is probably OK in every forum, I wouldn’t want people to make a habit of using strong language all over the SDMB.
I would suggest slightly modifying the text to this:
“women get about 6000 channels, but men have rabbit ears with tin foil on them and we only get 2 channels: hunger and orgasm, you generally have to feed us, and/or invite us to celebrate our love in the ancient, noble and sacred art of the communion of soul and body known as coitus, to gain our attention.”
What about “obtain mutual knowledge in the biblical sense of the word”?
Whatever you use, please clean it up to make it suitable for the rest of the board and not just the Pit.
And – most importantly, please – under 4 lines and/or spaces total.
Use it only once per page of any thread.
Sigs are by their nature short and snappy. If you want something bigger, start a blog somewhere.

Yes, thank you TubaDiva. I’ve seen on the board different regulartions on sigs such as the ones you had mentioned; I was asking here how best to clean it up because it won’t just be used in the Pit, it’ll be in many different forums.
It’s always better to ask first; around these parts, better to ask permission than forgiveness, though we do pass out both, though more of the first than the second.

While you’re doling out judgements on sigs, I’d like to ask if a movie quote with the word “bitch” would be acceptable in a sig (specifically, the line from The Princess Bride “I want my father back, you son of a bitch.”).
I await the the pronouncement with bated breath.

lt’s different for mods and admins, as we administer the board as well as being members of this community.
When I speak to something personally, I do not use the “Administrator” signature to show the difference.
When we sign formally, it indicates we’re on the job and that what we say may be taken to be a judgment on a situation.
You know, if we didn’t do things that way, there would be someone complaining that we didn’t make a clearer distinction between business and pleasure.
