So the network security at my place of employment is amped up times a million. It’s off the wall crazy.
If I try to access sites like, Huffpo or CNN it’s like I’m on an old 386 with a dial up modem. And THAT’s on a good day. Most of the time it will just freeze up, forcing me to reboot my computer.
I’m not savy in all things IT but I assume what’s screwing me up is the copious adverts on said websites. Some are OK, I guess, as I don’t have a problem with the SDMB.
Also, I am allowed zero admin functions, so that’s out the window.
that’s why. sites have loads of JavaScript, and IE versions prior to 9 had terribly slow js interpreters. I’m stuck on IE 8 at work and I feel your pain.
I run my browser (Firefox) with Javascript disabled all the time, except when I actually think I’ll need it (typically, for any sites where I’ll do any e-commerce or bill-paying). For my needs, this VASTLY improves the experience. I believe IE has a similar option.
Have you considered using RSS? Google’s RSS reader is out the door, but there will be others to replace it, like Feedly.
I use a RSS reader app on my iPod Touch (Feedler) because trying to load websites to read articles is hellishly slow. Using the app gives me the text of the article, maybe the photos, and that’s it. No other bits of the site and no ads.
