Signature Lines

Mine is from a song off the Pulp album, This is Hardcore. One of the most quotable rock albums out there, IMHO.

“Oh we were brought up on the Space-Race, now they expect us to clean toilets. When you have seen how big the world is how can you make do with this?”

-Pulp, “Glory Days”

Check out http://www.tsowell.com , he has a great page of quotes.

There is no safety for honest men but by believing all possible evil of evil men.

–Edmund Burke

Okay, so I finally got a new sig quote. Comments?

“The secret of life is, there ain’t no secret, and you don’t get your money back.”

I like it. But my current favorite is:

**Life is short.
Make fun of it. **

GuanoLad, I’d commented on yrs in another thread… but: nice quote from the Black Adder. Very memorable scene.

“Proverbs for Paranoids, 3: If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about answers.”

  • T.Pynchon, Gravity’s Rainbow.

Mine is a slight modification of a bumpersticker I liked. My original sig line, was a question I once asked a group of friends. The original sig being: While contemplating the navel of the universe, I wondered, is it an innie, or an outtie?

>>Being Chaotic Evil means never having to say your sorry…unless the other guy is bigger than you.<<

—The dragon observes

There are a ton of good quotes in Blackadder et al (as opposed to Mr Bean where there aren’t any) (if you know what I mean) so I think I’ll change mine regularly, probably including a few choice items from Young Ones and Bottom too

“So what you are telling me, Percy, is that something you have never seen is slightly less blue than something else that you have never seen.”

Is there an explanation behind the slightly less blue quote?

TennHippie:

One Word - Blackadder.

Coldfire

“You know how complex women are”

  • Neil Peart, Rush (1993)

Mine is from the Foundation Trilogy. I like it as a philosophical statement. I’ll probably change it to something flippant in a couple of weeks.

“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent” Isaac Asimov

Mine is my name. Folks still call me “Ike” and awful lot, though.

Uke

My sig’s pretty obscure… the problem is, if I tell you folks, the few won’t be elite, now will they? My user name has something to do with it. That’s all the help you get. Good luck.

Wordsmith: One of the elite few who knows that George Herbert Walker Bush was a Huge Berserk Rebel Warthog.

It’s an anagram.

My other quote was from the first series of The Black Adder, in the episode called “The Queen of Spain’s Beard” where Percy was comparing the Enfanta’s eyes with the famous Stone of Galveston.

My new quote is from the more popular 2nd series episode: “Beer”. Which also stars Miriam Margolyes, as did the above.

“Waheeey! ‘Duck!’ Get it?”
“Errr… No…”
“Duck! Sounds almost exactly like fu-”

I don’t use one myself, but I’ve speculated about using:

“This is a test. This is only a test. If this were your real life, you would have been given better instructions.”

Source? A friend, who is full of off-the-wall quotes. I’m not sure if this is one of them or original with him.

But poly, if it were real life, you wouldn’t have been given better instructions, you would have been given gibberish, or no instructions what-so-ever.
