Don’t want my “signature” every time. Don’t want to have to remember that every time. So, I used to have my “signature” option available, but not automatic. Want that. Prefer that. Can’t have that.
Go to the control thingy, uncheck the box that says “signature” and get a VB message about spelling “s t r a i g h t” somewhere or something. Now, I got my faults, Lord knows, and its a long list. But “stupid” ain’t on it!
That’s a general security code thingie. It’s basically used when you register, so the system thinks you’re not a robot. It’s probably being triggered now because you’ve been a member for longer than when that feature was implemented and never filled it in earlier.
I’m not sure that the security thing works properly on the new skin and I don’t have a way of testing it. You might try switching back to the old skin just to get around the security prompt. There should be someplace to enter the text it is looking for.
One of the issues with the new mobile-friendly skin is that you can’t set your sig to default to “off” any more. It’s a known issue, and it’s on the to-do list for the people who are in charge of such things, but one gets the impression that it’s fairly far down the list. You can, if you’d like, change back to the old skin: There’ a blue bar at the bottom of the page with a dropdown box that’ll let you choose which skin to use (the old one is called “Straight Dope v3.7.3” and the new one is “Sultantheme’s Responsive vB3-blue”).
