I know that there was somewhere, somewhen, a thread about “suggestions for the new board”, but it’s not anywhere in the last ten days and I wouldn’t want to resurrect something older than that, so here goes. I’m creating this thread as a single place where people can post their suggestions/hopes/wishes for improving the board. To start off:

I’d like to see [greek] and [/greek] tags, or something similar, to put their contents in “symbol” font. Anyone who’se ever posted to one of the technical science threads in GQ or the Comments can attest to their potential usefulness.

Any comments, or any more suggestions?

Well, this is something the administration has already said can’t be done with the current vB software, but you didn’t say it had to be a realistic wish…

I want the sigs on old posts to not change when you change your sig.

Does vB have a suggestion board like UBB did? Perhaps if a hundred or so requests were made… evil grin

Kat, I think Tuba already said in the Sig Thread that that’s just the way vB is configured, they can’t change it. Bummer, I know.

Okay, now I’m awake, and I’ve been over in the Pit, and Shayna just happened to mention that the sig lines are no longer automatic, and I realized she’s right. You now have to click on “show sig” every time you post? Um, did I miss an announcement? I’ve got my Internet Tools set to not show pictures, speeding loading times, so if there’s a graphic for mailbox announcements like there was with UBB, I didn’t see it.

Or is this just another bug surfacing?

Okay, now here’s a definite bug, or at least a potential major annoyance:

When you click on Show Sig, and then click on Preview Reply, it unchecks the Show Sig box, so if you proceed directly from Preview to Submit, you still don’t have your sig line. Can you fix that? Or shall we all just have to learn to click on Show Sig in between Preview and Submit?

Hmm. And then of course since vB brings you back to the forum after you post, rather than back into the thread, you don’t have any way of knowing that your sig line wasn’t included.

In that thread, your humble sez:

The way the system is currently set up, sigs are automatically attached to every post you make, unless you deselect that option.

We’re considering doing it the other way around – if you want a sig in your post, you select that option for that post.

Sometime next week we’ll be changing the sig option.

The change was implemented yesterday, as promised, and now when you make a posting if you want your sig to show in that post you must select the “Show Signature” option; the default is “OFF.”

Hope this clears everything up.
