Signs you've spent too much time on the Dope...

I have a message board I moderate that I have been visiting a lot longer than SDMB’s and now I am always trying to mouse over for a preview on the threads there.

Also, yesterday I went to see Spiderman 2 with a friend and I actually found myself discussing the thread in Cafe Society about Spiderman, his sphincter and g-forces. At least I didn’t remember the physics formulas and start explaining it in detail.

…You check out this thread to see how many of the signs you agree with.

Yes I too use the mouseover on other sites to get a preview of a story - but as we all know, it doesn’t work except at the SDMB.

When I saw that M&M’s were going to be in black and white my first thought was not how odd that was, or even if they would taste different. No, my first thought was concern for the unemployed gladiators and sympathy for these poor people who would now have much duller snack times.

Even worse than that, when I read articles, especially editorials, in the newspaper, I often find myself looking for the “Post Reply” button to-- I don’t know, press with my finger or something.

The other thing I’ve started to realize: the only reason I get to bed at a consistent hour every night, is because that’s when the board goes down for maintenance.

I need somebody outside my apartment with a megaphone: “Step away from the keyboard, Mr. Grundy.”

Every time someone draws a happy face on the dry-erase board at work, I replace the curvy line with a straight one and add some eyebrows: :dubious:

I’ve also used “1920’s style Death Rays” in casual conversation, even though I wasn’t around when it originated. References nobody gets are big among my circle of friends.

You know you’ve spent too much time on the boards when you take time to frame your thoughts in the form of a potential new thread. I do this all the time. :smack:
I also try to sneak “1920’s style death ray” into my daily conversations.

When people on various IMs ask me what I’m doing, I give them a one word response: “SDMB”. They all know what it means.

Lessee…I
-compose threads in my head (mainly Pit threads…usually I deem them too lame to actually post)
-refer to “the MB I frequent” to my friends IRL
-have dreamt about Dopers
-noticed a sharp increase in my heart rate when I overheard someone IRL say “1920s-style death ray”. I was going to talk to him but then I chickened out.

I’ve also created an “SDMB” category on my AIM buddy list especially for Dopers, but I’m too chicken to actually talk to anyone.

I’ve become much more confrontational IRL with people who talk politics, economics, etc. I’m quick to say “you got a cite for that”?

I do the same thing.

I’ve become prone to make such exclamations as:

“Oh, for the love of Og!” or “Og knows!”

You respond to your screen name.
You use SDMB threads as cites in arguments with your friends.
You start dating a doper.

What Board? (Pass me another beer)

You can count the number of times you’ve seen this thread topic.

On your first day at a new job, your biggest problem is the internet connection is AOL. Therefore crap, and you are unable to access the board.

When you start thinking in terms of “these boxes are packed full of MPSIMS” or “the cat did TMI on the carpet.”

When you wake up one morning with the perfect post in mind for a 4 day old thread.

Or even when you start thinking of yourself as your screen name.
