Anyone else first hear about the original creation of Silence! The Musical from an episode of Unscrewed with Martin Sargent on the late great TechTV? (this was back before YouTube etc.) I found and downloaded them (they were free) the very next day! Still have them on my PC & iPhone…
Raspail’s substandard musical skills were more of a minor plot point in the film Hannibal. As I recall, in the novel Silence of the Lambs, Raspail had been one of Lecter’s patients (as well as being the boyfriend of Buffalo Bill) and Lecter kills him semi-impulsively during a consult, in part because he’s tired of Raspail’s whining and that he was a lousy musician.
The film of SotL muddies this a bit, suggesting Buffalo Bill had killed Raspail and Lecter “merely tucked [Raspail’s severed head] away as I found him.”
