Silicon Valley, Mike Judge's latest stuff

I’ve been watching a lot of TV recently, while I do a bunch of routine stuff.

Anyway–I think this show has potential. The first episode is available on YouTube: - YouTube

I loved the Aspberger’s dating website, the bicycling marketing meeting, and being able to do hexadecimal multiplication in your head (“What’s 9 times F? Fleventy five.”) And the doctor was hilariously terrible.

I might give it another episode but it didn’t grab me.

I like Martin Starr and TJ Miller.

Potential there, but the first episode was only meh. I give it more tries only because of Mike Judge.

I’ve been looking forward to this, thanks for the link!

I like Judge, Starr, Miller, Kumail Nanjiani and Christopher Evan Welch. I will give it a lot of leeway to suck.

Wow, that was classic Mike Judge! Kind of like Office Space meets Big Bang Theory. Definitely has potential. This episode alone was pretty funny. The poser, evil billionaire vs the autistic, ridiculous electric car-driving nice billionaire. And Andy Daly was perfect as the doctor (I love his CC show Review). Even the pseudo-tech of the loss-less, searchable compressed data app was pleasingly realistic enough.

Makes me wish I got HBO…

One thing I liked was the story makes sense. The thing these two billionaires are wanting to buy is really a thing that would be valuable that I could see a techie invent without realizing what he did.

I really really seriously really honestly and truly do not like Mike Judge comedy. I give all his work a chance, and I end up hating it every time. This is no exception.

I really don’t understand modern comedy.

I didn’t find the first episode extremely funny (haven’t seen the second yet). I was more interested in the Inside Baseball aspects of how Silicon Valley works.

I liked it a lot.

I enjoyed it.

I agree (after just seeing one episode). Maybe AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire will be more interesting - the early days of IBM PC clones (starts June 1).

Just to clarify, I liked the show and plan to keep watching, but I didn’t find it laugh out loud funny.

I liked in the second episode when the stripper showed up and all of the guys were nervous and shy, “I hate Palo Alto.”

It looks like that’s more of a drama. And while I’ll watch it, this show is a comedy. (BTW, I particularly appreciated the SimCity-like graphics in the opening credits.)

I did like this episode more than the pilot.

I laughed at the joke in the meeting where he takes a sip from an empty cup. I have done that on multiple occasions in meetings just to look like I’m doing something.

Well to each his own, but you can’t watch a Mike Judge show and wait for “the jokes” like on your typical sitcom (where literally every other line is a setup or a punch line). Judge writes funny ‘stories’, there’s always an overall story & character relationship arc and that’s where the humor comes from. And that’s why his stuff is so funny, it’s not just a series of gags, it’s overall humor thru believable situations and characters.

…Oh please there are plenty of traditional gags and set-ups throughout Judge’s stuff. Yes, he’s more character-based, but you’re talking like he’s John the Baptist in the wilderness. I don’t think anyone here was expecting a 2 1/2 Men style sitcom.

I like it. I don’t understand any of the lingo or the intricacies of the business, but the group dynamic is interesting, and fun. And the two bigwigs – they’re fun too. One of them played a creep on Big Love but I’m not recognizing anyone else from HBO’s stable.

“I had to give her my bike.”

I really liked it. It felt really believable, and, having a few friends who’ve been around the Silicon Valley scene…yeah, pretty believable. I tend to find most fake companies and fake products in shows distractingly unbelievable, but I think this show did a pretty good job of making everything seem nearly real but with a little cartoonish elevation.

The first episode was a slow starter, but it set up some interesting hooks. The characters clearly have a little development in store, and there’s actually a plot to pull things along.

Haven’t watched episode two yet, but I’m hopeful.

Beavis & Butthead?

That said, the first episode was OK. I liked the 2nd more. Will keep watching.
