Simple Alcoholic Drinks to make.

Bah, that’s fer pansies! Get yourself some windex:

1 part vodka
1 part blue curacao

I also enjoy this drink shown to me by a man named Wilson, who we all now think was just a mass hallucination on our part:

1 shot vodka
1 shot amaretto
Top with coke

Tastes disturbingly like Dr.Pepper if you do it right.

I guess part of the question is whether you like the taste of the alcoholic beverage. For example, I’ve never found a margarita that I like as much as a good sipping tequila straight up (or on the rocks on a hot day). Perhaps a wedge of lime, but nothing else added.

If there are very good beers available, I prefer them to any mixed drink you can come up with. Generally speaking, I’ll drink a Diet Coke rather than your basic “megabrewery” product like Coors, Bud, Michelob, Miller, etc.

As for the Long Island Iced Tea, I believe there are approximately 14,309,593 different recipes. I learned it as 1 shot each of vodka, light rum, dark rum, gin, and tequila in a highball glass full of ice. Top off with water or margarita mix and add a splash of Coke for color and a sprig of fresh mint.

What beers you reccommend?

I like grog myself, but with three caveats.

  1. Use a brand called Pusser’s Rum. This was licensed by the Admiralty when the British Navy discontinued their rum ration a few years ago. They built the Empire on this stuff!
  2. Squeeze in some lime juice to ward off scurvy. They built the Empire on this stuff too.
  3. Don’t get carried away, or you’ll be carried out. The standard ration was half a pint of rum and half a pint of water at noon, and the same in the evening. They built the Empire on this stuff?

when I hear people calling something with vodka in it a “martini” I immediately think of Bertrand Russell’s (I think) observation, “Just because 50,000 people believe something, does not make it true.”

The only other person I know who likes her martini as dirty as I do is Mrs. Prefect, everyone else reacts with, “ooh, that’s too briny”, or “ooh, I don’t like it so dirty.” Then you can keep the hell outta my gin, if that is your attitude!

[nitpick] A Moscow Mule is made with ginger beer, not ginger ale. Try it, you’ll never go back!

Wow. What a question. My tastes are pretty varied, but here, in no particular order, are some of my favorites:

[ul]
[li]Guinness Stout - Served on draught on nitrogen in a bar or pub. One of the lighter, more refreshing stouts. Low alcohol content.[/li][li]Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - The archetypical American pale ale. All others shall be compared against it.[/li][li]I like the IPA (India Pale Ale) style, but no particular brands leap to mind[/li][li]Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout - Yum. A meal in a bottle. Originally brewed for lactating mothers.[/li][li]Scottish Ales - I tend to prefer the heavy or export (70 shilling or 80 shilling) varieties. Belhaven makes a good one.[/li][li]Moose Drool - Just a good dark beer[/li][li]Buffalo Bill’s Pumpkin Ale - I don’t know if you can even get this anywhere else. I used to buy it from Buffalo Bill’s microbrewery in Hayward, California when I lived out there[/li][li]Anchor Steam Beer - A truly American style also known as “California Common,” where the beer is brewed at ale temperatures, but with lager yeast[/li][li]Full Sail Pale Ale[/li][li]Redhook Rye - Beers made with rye aren’t for everyone. It’s an odd taste, but I like it.[/li][/ul]

Beer aficianados will note that I don’t put much stock in the Reinheitsgebot (Bavarian purity law)

When I studied in Russia the first time around, one suitemate came up with a terrifying variation:
~2 parts nasty cheap Soviet vodka, the kind that never gets exported
1 part blue curacao
1 part of a vaguely orange-flavored drink mix whose name escapes me at the moment, but which was basically the Soviet equivalent of Tang

If you got the proportions right, it ended up a scary radioactive semi-opaque green color. We christened it Chernobyl.

I just this second came up with a fantastic drink!

1 shot vodka
1 shot grand marnier (triple sec will do if that’s all you have)
1 spash lime juice
top with lime flavored seltzer water

Here’s one with a little more hair on its chest.

The Purple Fuck:
1 shot sambuca
1 coffee straw
tequila

Pour a shot of sambuca. Place the coffee straw in the bottom of the shot glass and begin sucking down the shot. As the shot’s being sucked down, keep the glass constantly full by pouring tequila.

I don’t know if this has a name, but it tastes like a cream soda if they don’t water it down with ice too much:

1 1/2 shots of vanilla vodka, topped with ginger ale.

I love sipping a chilled glass of Malibu rum in the summer.

Any diffrerences between Dark, Gold or white rum?Is Rum from Jamaica any different from Trinidad or Barbados rum? And what can you do with Bacardi Razz Bacardi Green Apple, Bacardi Coco, Bacardi Vanilla and Bacardi Limon?

When did this trend of putting all these flavours into alcohol start getting out of hand? Vodka lends itself to it, but I tried to buy just some plain white rum last weekend and it was hard to find on the shelf next to all the banana and green apple flavoured crap. But it officially went to far when I saw flavoured whiskeys - one was cherry and the other was, IIRC, vanilla.

Stop making booze for 18 year olds.

HA! could someone please tell my ex-boyfriend that?

then again, this IS the same one who swore up and down that Aquafina water tasted slightly like Grey Goose Vodka - with a slight pear undertone.

And since i haven’t seen it yet, my personal favorite: the fuzzy navel.

orange juice and peach schnapps, mix to taste. it’s delicious. i have it every friday and saturday for my shift drink at work.

So - expanding on the topic, what’s a simple drink one would recommend for use in a drinking game, by a relatively inexperienced drinker?

Caveat is that it must smell/taste pleasant - precisely in the way most beers don’t.

Does Dr. Pepper go well with Vodka? I’ve heard there’s a mixed drink that tastes like Dr. Pepper, but I don’t recall what it is…

A few posts up…

Hmmm. I could’ve sworn it didn’t involve another soda. Seems like cheating.

I was searching through some older threads, and I found this one. I have a yummy addition. It’s called ‘Angel Tits’…a name given to it by a great aunt of mine (If there is a REAL name for it, I don’t know what it is!). We make this scrumptious concoction for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holidays ONLY. It’s very rich and fattening, but very tasty! Everyone wants a big glass of this stuff when they come over for the holidays. It goes FAST, so making a double batch would be a good thing, if you’ve got the room in the fridge for it. Trust me, it won’t be there long!

*** Angel Tits ***

1/2 gallon of a GOOD brand of Vanilla Ice Cream
1 - 2 liter bottle of Sprite
1 quart Sloe Gin
1 pint Cherry Vodka
(You can also use more Cherry Vodka if you want. I usually use a quart of each.)

  • Let the ice cream get soft, at room temperature.
  • Into a LARGE bowl, combine ALL ingredients. It will be very foamy, so be sure to use a very large bowl for this part.
  • Mix the concoction well and wait awhile for the foam to go down a bit.
  • Transfer the yummy concoction into clean 2 liter soda bottles.
  • Chill in the fridge until ready to drink.

Dang, you’re uppity!
