Simple(?) PC question

Hi
I have recently got a new PC which has come installed with Windows 7.

When setting up it asked for computer name I entered DAVE123

When I log onto any work system I have to enter my username. DAVE123 is always pre-typed into this box.
Great, apart from the fact that DAVE123 is not my username.
Which means about 10 times a day I have to swipe over it and type ‘D12345’.

I have tried renaming my PC though the control panel to D12345 but the login box is always pre-filled with DAVE123

Any ideas what this DAVE123 name is and how to change it. I have searched online and cant see anything.

I hope its simple and if it cant be done its hardly earth shattering, but it would save me the annoyance of changing it all the time.

Thanks in advance

Dave

It sounds like maybe during setup, you created a Windows user account as DAVE123 which, if you aren’t required to log in as when the computer boots, probably doesn’t have a password assigned to it. If you can open “User Accounts” in the Control Panel and see a DAVE123 user, that’s what happened. (Or if you see “DAVE123” at the top of the right-hand menu when you click Start.)

If I understand you correctly, you aren’t required to log into anything until you access something that requires your work domain credentials, (D12345 + password), but it’s pulling the saved username from the Windows account instead. I’m not really sure what the best solution is— one might be to rename the Windows account name from DAVE123 to D12345, if you are able to do so. There might be a better solution, though.

Also, if you’re using a web browser to log into your work system, the username could just be saved in the browser’s username/password cache, or possibly in a cookie set by your work website or Intranet site.

Or, all of these ideas could be completely wrong.
