Simpsons 1/28- "Revenge is a Dish Best Served Three Times"

This was a rather unusual episode, but very well done. It seems that for the past five years or so, there’s been a story show that wasn’t a Halloween episode- tall tales, Bible stories, “tales from the public domain”- and they’ve all been pretty interesting. This one is no exception. I liked the self-satrizing wraparounds, and the “serious” ending cracked me up. (I loved the various punishment names in “Revenge of the Geeks”- is “Genital Hospital” an actual punishment, or is it the writers’s new answer to the classic mystery “dreaded rear admiral?”)

Marge: “Revenge never solves anything.”
Homer: “Then what’s America doing in Iraq?”

“Before I was a Nazi leader, I was a Nazi reader”

Homer: “Avenge me…in flamboyant, impractical fashion.”

Apu: “Thank you, mass vigilante. Your overzealous homicide has saved me eighty cents.”

Villians terrorizing Springfield–I mean, Gotham City:
Otto as The Toker
Flanders as The Diddler
Hans Moleman as Mr. Mole
Patty and Selma as Sugar and Spice
Poison Lenny as Himself (“I’m not a villian. I’m a transvestite.”)

After a debate on the number of stars (two?):
Rich Texan: “Why do you think it is that mankind is so inclined towards hatin’ one another?”
Homer: “I don’t know. Let’s just lay here till we figure it out.”
THIS EPISODE IS DEDICATED TO ALL WHO DIED IN THE STAR WARS FILMS:
Darth Vader
Darth Maul
Greedo
Uncle Own
Storm Trooper #5
Jango Fett
General Grievous (droid)
Storm Trooper #22
Dak
Obi Wan (Ben) Kenobi
Whoever Jimmy Smits played
Hutt, Jabba the
Sy Snoodles
Unfortunately, not Jar-Jar Binks
Everyone on both Death Stars when they blew up

I thought it was a truly crappy episode. Worst than “meh”.

I’ve noticed some recent episodes had horrendously long producer credits at the start, so I tried counting this time. I saw at least 18 (!) people credited as some form of a producer. There is usually an inverse correlation between quality and number of producers, this is yet another data point.

Very funny episode.

There’s no way Sy Snoodles died.

I loved the visuals when people were self-administering wet-willies. Wasn’t one of the punishment choices a “dry willie”?

I liked when Wiggum was doing the European ambulance sound.

On the other hand, that could have just been because this episode was made up of separate, self-contained segments that could have had different people working on them.

I enjoyed the episode. But I really, really wish they had tried a little harder and come up with a better frame, one that didn’t rely on Homer being Peter-Griffin-ishly stupid, mean, and jerkish.

I thought the plot in general was stupid, but plenty of laughs nonetheless.

I don’t know why I found it so funny, but when Homer said, “Avenge me in flamboyant, impractical fashion.”, I probably laughed for ten minutes.

Overall, not bad.

I believe the adjective you want there is “masked.”

“That had what I liked best in a story- an ending.”

All the characters who died? Does no one ever remember poor Aunt Beru?

As for the episode, yeah, it sucked.

Yoda you cannot forget either.

That was my favourite bit, too. I liked the episode and it beat out Family Guy and American Dad.

The list was for people who were killed. Yoda died of natural causes.
