Simpsons 9/24- Please Homer Don't Hammer 'Em

Last new episode until November. I thought this was a pretty good one. I loved Marge’s various projects, especially the yard sign with copyright notice

Seen in Captain Blip’s Zapateria arcade:
Click Clack
Unipede
Remington Steele: The Game
Rocky III vs. Clara Peller
Devil’s Advocate (a favorite of Homer’s)
Space-Tac-Toe
Polybius (the subject of an urban legend, this non-extant game supposedly was designed by the CIA and caused bizarre behavior in those who played it)
Triangle Wars

The name of the bookstore, Rock Bottom Remainders, is a literary term referring to copies of books that are sold off at low prices to make room for new inventory, but is also the name of a band consisting authors including Dave Barry and Amy Tan. Oh, and some guy named Matt Groening is in the band, too.

The song playing during Bart and Skinner’s allergy fight is John Williams’s Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: Episode I.

My favorite line in the episode was Marge’s “He’s going to die! He’ll never hear me say ‘I told you so!’”

Pure Marge.

Of course maybe you have to be married to really appreciate it.

<Yawn>…
pasable episode, nothing special, but better than football, i HATE football…

I thought it was about 50 times better than last week’s POS.

The Remington Steele video game was a nice bit of foreshadowing to the A plot. The B plot, Skinner and Bart and battling allergies, was relatively weak.

I do believe Stephen King also plays in that band.

Ahah! I was thinking ‘why does this plot seem familiar?’ That’s why!

I especially liked this, only because someone started a thread just this weekend about the recent overuse of choral music during fight scenes. Bart hasn’t been this much of an asshole for awhile. The B story didn’t do much for me.

It was, but it was nice to see the non-spineless Skinner make an appearance. And in spite of myself, I laughed at his line about “Bart, you’ve been waving your nuts in my face for too long.”

Agree with friedo, infinitely better than last weeks episode, but no classic.
And I know continuity is near impossible with dozens of writers and nearly 400 episodes, but it would have been good if they remembered Bart’s allergies are glow in the dark monster makeup, butterscotch and imitation butterscotch- they could have had their battle in a candy factory instead of a Thai food factory, with a butterscotch candy disk on the stick instead of a shrimp. And actually, maybe that is the problem- current writers who aren’t rabid fans and don’t know all the episodes enough to know such things. I mean, if I know Bart’s allergies as a fan, I would think someone writing for the show should know as well. Overall, a distant third to this weeks American Dad and Family Guy.

Ummm… I’ll bet everyone will think I’m a perv for bringing this up, but the animators gave Marge a bit of a camel toe, albeit brief, in the first scene where she shows up in her overalls.

I only noticed it because:

1.) It’s so unusual to see Marge in anything other than her green dress, so I was paying particular attention to her clothes.

2.) I taped the episode and viewed it later, which allowed me to double check what I thought I saw I really did see. (It’s subtle, and it dissapears halfway through the scene.)

3.) I’m a perv.

Frick - For a second it sounded like a girl measuring.

Homer - Oh…that was me. You know the saying - measure like a girl, hammer like a man!

After a half&half episode and then a good episode, now this flop. Yug.

What a horrible episode before the big break.

Just be thankful the football is on NBC this year. Remember when it was on Fox and you (or your Tivo) never knew what time Futurama and Simpsons would start?

I actually keep the football game on with the sound off, because it’s in 1080i high-def and it’s so darn pretty on my plasma.

When I saw Skinner rifling through Bart’s med files I thought for sure they were going to go with the butterscotch allergy angle (perhaps have Skinner hold Bart at bay with a squirt gun filled with butterscotch pudding) so I was a bit thrown when they had Bart allergic to shrimp instead. As I recall, it was Marge who was allergic to shrimp (she mentioned this in the ep where they went to the Frying Dutchman).

As for continuity, I actually think “The Simpsons” is better than many other long-running shows. What “mistakes” they do make I believe are often conscious attempts by the writers to screw with the obsessive fans who they know would bitch endlessly about such a small thing like a cartoon character’s allergies.

“You’re holding your hammer upside down.”
“Well, you know what they say- hammer with the wood, it’s all good.”

I’d think twice if I were you.

[Homer]Don’t tell me how many times to think!

I must disagree. I enjoyed this episode quite a bit, and laughed out loud several times.

I wish they had had the Larry the Looter and My Dinner with Andre (with bon mot button) video games at the arcade.

Wasn’t Bart also allergic to broccoli or cauliflower (I forget which one) in the episode where he packed on the pounds and Marge was trying to get him to eat healthy. She handed him the broc(cauli?) and said it wouldn’t kill him, then he eats it and the next scene is her saying “well, now we know you’re allergic to…”.

As someone who has ridden well over 200 different roller coasters and who has travelled all over the country just to go to amusement parks, I gotta say I loved the “out-of-town roller coaster weirdos” line.
Yeah, a lot of them are real wierdos, lemme tell ya…
