Remember when Simpsons crossed over with good shows, like the Critic?
I saw that episode.
It stinks!
I have my doubts about the upcoming episode.
I don’t mind guest stars per se, but I have been very disappointed with most episodes which revolve around real-world celebrities.
The Lady Gaga episode was dire… The worst episode since the panda rape.
The Michael Jackson episode was beautiful and touching, but since MJ was playing a man playing himself, I think the rule still stands.
Booo-urns.
Booo-urns.
Eh, it had its good points.
Simpsons will be doing a Futurama crossover on 11/9.
This is the one I’m waiting to see, mainly because I am a huge Futurama fan.
Note that this is officially an episode of Family Guy, produced by FG’s creative team.
This crossover ep was the cover story of a recent Entertainment Weekly. I couldn’t find the whole thing online, but I did find 11 things you’ll want to know about the ‘Simpsons’-‘Family Guy’ crossover.
I’m pretty much dreading it, but I’ll watch. Worst comes to worst, I’ll forget it happened afterward.
I don’t see how that’s possible, unless it’s this year’s Treehouse of Horror (and it being on 11/9 doesn’t completely rule that out… ), as each show is fictional in the other show’s universe.
it’s a week after THH which will have another crossover. Futurama has gnarly powers.
Hilarious rape joke there. Jaysus, I think I’ll pass. Both shows should have been put out to pasture a long, long time ago.
I dunno. I found that trailer encouraging and the first time I actually was amused by The Simpsons in a long time. (I still find adolescent enjoyment in Family Guy, but I guess this technically is a Family Guy episode.)
Haven’t cared about The Simpsons in ages, and never liked Family Guy in any incarnation (always seems to be either lazy or trying too hard), but I’ll give this a watch. It’s a big event, potentially a milestone, and heck, I hardly watch any TV nowadays as it is.
My main concern is how they’re going to pull of the Homer/Peter dynamic, which, let’s be honest here, is going to be the main focus of the episode. If Moviebob’s The Big Picture is any indication (and it’s always an indication…seriously, start watching it already ), there’s some serious bad blood between the fans of both, to go along with the false dichotomy that’s pretty much freaking obligatory with any big fandom nowadays. These are two guys who, despite not being the sharpest tools in the shed, have an astounding ability to make things happen, control discourse, throw monkey wrenches into the system, and, unfortunately, suck the air out of the room. It’s a definite possibility that this cartoon ain’t big enough for the two of them, and I just hope the writers have enough left in the tank to work this balance.
I’ll review it if I’m up to it.
(I saw that The Critic crossover. It was…okay. It worked. I liked that it wasn’t hellbent on endlessly dragging Jay through the mud like his regular show. Nothing special, though. The part I remember the most is Rainier Wolfcastle taking half a day to figure out he was wearing loafers. Whatever.)
I find certain things in this article suspect. I know for a fact that when* Family Guy* started I read an interview with MacFarlane someplace (could have been in EW) and when asked about if they got along with The Simpson’s people he specifically said, “Nah, they kind of hate us.” He stated something to the effect that they were all Ivy League high-brow writers on The Simpsons and thought Family Guy was not only a rip-off of their show, but a low-brow, blue-collar bad one at that.
At the time I agreed with them (and I was very amused when I found out that South Park’s Parker & Stone felt the same way!). I hated the first ‘block’ of FG, before it got cancelled and came back. Even today I can’t watch those first seasons, they’re just terrible. What’s incredibly ironic is that once FG was brought back, it got steadily & steadily better while at the exact same time *The Simpsons *steadily declined.
What pisses me off the most though, is that *Futurama *was better than them both, for its entire run (the original run on Fox, the DVD episodes and the CC ones!)
I was never a fan of The Critic and when Fox insisted on doing a Simpsons crossover I read that Matt Groening was so furious and dead-set against it that he had his name removed from that episode’s credits. Ironically (again) that episode was actually pretty good. Has one of my favorite Simpson’s lines of all time…
best Family Guy ever.
I liked it a lot. I also like Futurama a lot as well but I don’t get why people think it’s “SO MUCH BETTER” than the Simpsons or Family Guy, or heck, even American Dad. Or King Of The Hill.
They’re all different and funny in their own ways.
I liked it, and I don’t really like “Family Guy.” I’ve seen it just enough to know what’s what. Great job on the animation, too.
I wonder if they had to hand-draw everything themselves or if they could buy/rent/borrow backdrops and models from The Simpsons??
About a Futurama / Simpsons cross-over…
It has been done a few times in comics:

It’s easy to say The Simpsons is past its prime but if the recent marathon has show anything it’s that the show still can be very very good.
I liked the cross over. The fight went on way too long but hey, what is Family Guy without a joke run into the ground? I think the harsh humor was Family Guy marking its territory since it knows the Simpsons rarely goes for that.
I really liked seeing Homer and Peter drawn in each other’s style of animation.
