Perusing The Simpsons: One Step Beyond Forever’s entry on the episode “Blame It on Lisa,” I was reminded of the extremely sexy children’s program that Bart was watching on Brazilian television.
According to the book:
What? There was a children’s show like that? And I missed it? Who can tell me about this Xuxa?
Xuxa (shoo-shah) was a kid’s show in the early-'90s staring a Brazilian performer named Xuxa. Apparently she was trying to make an American version of her show, which was popular in Brazil. I never watched it, but I heard its ratings were low.
So was this show really as erotic as was depicted on the “Simpsons” episode? I would have guessed that it was an exaggeration, but the book says that the content was from “Xuxa.”
I remember watching a bit as a kid; my parents got a kick out of it. I seem to remember lots of short skirts and thigh-high boots. At the end of the show, she’d put a ton of lipstick on and kiss one of the kids on the cheek, leaving a mark.
Yeah, Xuxa had lots of sexy dancing girls, many dressed as “slutty toy soldiers” with the tall hats, epaulets on their shoulders, big buttons, and then really short skirts and silky-looking stockings and boots. They were always marching in place or dancing around. She showed off her legs quite a bit as well.
I remember this crappy show. Thank God that horny teenagers didn’t discover this show. It might have become the highest rated kids TV show ever
There was also a satire of Xuxa in the episode Marge Be Not Proud: during a Krusty Christmas special, the famous clown is unable to pronounce the name of Brazilian kids’ show host Xoxcilita.
