OK kids, listen up. This morning, I was watching my video - as I do on saturday mornings. I always tape the Simpsons (we’re a tad behind the US, naturally). One of the taped episodes was the one where Homer goes to the Annual Chili Festival. He eats some weird Guatamala Chili and ends up in some sort of dream/vision/halucination. He travels through a desert, and on top of what looks like a Mayan temple, he meats a fox, that presents itself as his spiritual animal.

Now, on to the question. I am 99.9% sure of this, but I GOTTA know. Since Fox cuts the credits and goes to commercials:

IS THE FOX’S VOICE JOHNNY CASH??

Please, tell me. I must know NOW.

I was in a hurry that night and saw exactly that one part. At the time, I was convinced that the voice was an American Indian comedian I had recently seen on the Chris Rock show.

(Not cool to hijack a thread from the get go, but can someone help me out with that? Here’s the joke he told on CR:

"You know what the difference between white people and Indians is?

Indians go to a movie, and watch it, and say “that’s a good movie.”

White people go to a movie, and they steal your f**king land!"

It would be easy for me to be wrong about this. I’ve been working a little too hard again.)

No, I don’t speak Spanish, but I’ve pretty much got them memorized.

Uh, Dodgy, what American shows does Austrian TV broadcast? Similar question, Coldy, but different country. How much of that humor translates? Is it still biting social commentary or does it just end up nonsensical farce?

Okay, a lot starts out as nonsensical farce…

We get a lot of American (and English, for that matter) shows here. The difference with Austria and Germany is that we don’t dub them over in our own language. Well, some kids shows are dubbed, but anything for ages 6 and up is just subtitled. So the answer is twofold:

  1. The humour holds up as much as the translater can manage;
  2. Anyone that speaks English can just ignore the subtitles and enjoy the 'Murriken puns and one-liners :slight_smile:
