Simpsons quote question

Homer: This is the greatest thing in the world! Name one thing mankind’s ever done that was better.
Lisa: The Renaissance.
Homer: This is better.

My question is :what was Homer talking about? I can remember the quote as clear as anything, but I can’t for the life of me think what he was referring to.

Feel free to nitpick the wording of the quote too.

“Police Cops”

From Homer to the Max (about half way down the page; just search for the word “Renaissance”).

I’ve seen plays that were more interesting than this! Honest to god - plays!

(unrelated, but I love that quote :))

since we’re at it, please finish this quote.

Lisa: {something something something}

Homer: I don’t care about {something}, I care about ME. MY Entertainment (or is it enjoyment?)

what did lisa say?

It’s actually said to Bart and Marge. Homer (after missing a huge number of hints) learns that Marge has dropped him from their doubles team because he sucks and Bart is taking his place.

Bart: We were good, Dad. They asked us to play in the Krusty Klassic.
Marge: It’s for charity. It benefits victims of Balcony Collapse.
Bart: We can wipe out BC in our lifetime!
Homer: I don’t care about BC. I care about ME- My Enjoyment!

And he runs away weeping.

Bart: Plus, all the funds go to help victims of Balcony collapse! We could wipe out B.C. in our lifetime!
Homer: I don`t care about B.C.! I care about M.E.! MY ENJOYMENT!

Shoot, a minute late, and not even as accurate… :smack:

I forgot that it’s from Tennis the Menace. And boy am I glad I got the first half of the simulpost… after writing all that and consulting the SNPP to make sure I got the first two lines right, I’d have felt like a putz.

I got one that’s been bugging me for awhile. It’s a scene where Milhouse is intoxicated for some reason, and he says “You don’t know me!!” Could someone tell me what episode that’s from, and what the scene is about?

I can’t remember exactly… but at a fair or something Bart and Milhouse ride one of those 3-D spinner thingys. It’s billed as “What it feels like to be drunk” or something like that. Bart puts his arm around Milhouse, “I love this guy, this guy, he’s the guy.” Then Milhouse says his line… I think

“You couldn’t fool your own mother on the foolingist day of your life if you had an electrified fooling machine.” Or something.

I am using THREE Simpsons clips in my ethics class on Monday–woo hoo!

The lady gets Bart off the ride and says “Now you’re handsome!” Bart replies with “You don’t know me!” He then stumbles to Milhouse who puts his arm around Bart and slurs “This guy here … this is the guy!”

Help me get this quote right…
Homer: If I wanted to see Japanese people I’d go to the zoo.
Marge: Homer!
Homer: What? Mr. Takahashi (?). He’s the zoo keeper.

Is that how it goes?

It’s something like “What? The guy who cleans the elephant cage is Japanese. His name is Takashi. He’s in my book club!”

Marge: C’mon, Homer, Japan will be fun. You like Rashomon.
Homer: That’s not how I remember it. Besides, if we wanted to see Japanese people we could have gone to the zoo!
Marge: Homer!
Homer: What? The guy who washes the elephants is Japanese. His name is Takashi! He’s in my book club!
