Simpsons Throwaways and Tossoffs

I believe this is a call back to “The Manchurian Candidate.”

Hope this isn’t a repeat: Bart is looking through a telescope seeing all kinds of colorful, amazing planets, shooting starts, UFOs, etc. and says, “Wow! The universe is soooo boring!”

K this line by Moe cracks me up everytime I hear it…or say it

“Call this an unfair generalization but old people are NO GOOD at EVERYTHING”
hahahahah

From the “Crayon in the brain” episode. Homer is calling to check the price of the stock he just bought.

computer: “Please state the name of the company”
Homer: “Animatronics”
computer: “Animatronics. Up 3/4”
Homer: “Yahoo!”
computer: “Yahoo. Up 1 and 1/2”
Homer: “Huh? What’s this crap?”
computer: “FOX Broadcasting. Down 8”

And the grin on Homer’s face during the last line is great. He seems as amused by the FOX joke as we are.

Homer: Old people don’t need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use.
Marge: Homer, would you please stop reading that Ross Perot pamphlet?

I can’t remember the exact wording, but when Homer was buying stock online:

Homer: Newscorp, buy.

Lisa: Daaad, that’s Fox.

Homer: Aah! Delete! Delete! Delete!

I’ve never seen this but because you all seemed so well versed in simpsons trivia I thought I’d ask…

I have been told that in some episode they have an auction and either in the background or being auctioned off their is a prisoner’s cap/shirt with the numbers 24601 on it…

Anyone ever heard of it?

Kitty

Hmmm… could be the one where Homer buys Snakes’s car. As I recall they’ve had more than one “24601” joke.

Okay, what’s the significance of “24601”?

Is that you, Fairy Princess Kitty?

If so, please allow me to let you know how glad I am to see you back at the boards.

Chris

I see one of Selma’s letters to Sideshow Bob in the episode in which they married was headlined “Dear Number 24601…” and Principal Skinner was prisoner 24601 in the BeSharps episode. (A 1994 Time article also states Marge wore it, but I found no reference at snpp.com.)

The signifigance is that it is also Jean Valjean’s number.

24601 is Jean Valjean’s prison number in Les Miserables. I’ve never seen the show and I have no interest. Blame my brother for his habit of constantly blasting the soundtrack.

Ohhhhhhh.

Thank you!

In response to Yumblie:

I’m not too sure if there is any significance. But…in another episode, when something big is happeneing (could be when they find the angel?) Side show Mel says

“I want to hear from Lionel Hutz!”

Also, can anyone remember what episode Homer says
“can you speak up? I’m wearing a towel!”
and also if possible, why he says it?!

Agent: Now, when I say, “Hello, Mr. Thompson,” and press down on your foot, you smile and nod.
Homer: No problem.
Agent: Hello, Mr. Thompson! [stomps on Homer’s foot a few times]
Homer: I think he’s talking to you.

Homer: Wait a minute…there’s something bothering me about this place. I know! This lesbian bar doesn’t have a fire exit. Enjoy your death trap, ladies.

Same episode…

“If word gets out about this, Krazy Klown Airlines will be a laughingstock.”

The episode where Marge is declared legally insane - not only is she dubbed insane for believing in god, but escapes with the marching band parade bit. She fits in because they’re all in orange jumpsuits with giant blue hats (a la the Beefeaters at the Tower of London). And then the band marches right back into the asylum. It’s the inmate band.

Re: Homer wearing a towel.

Principal Skinner was calling because Bart was in trouble. He calls their house, and Marge misses the call - she comes running out of the bathroom yelling “Just a minute!!!” wearing only a towel. Skinner then calls Homer’s office, and Homer comes running from offscreen yelling “Just a minute!!!” and answers the phone - wearing only a towel. He then says “You’ll have to speak up, I’m wearing a towel.”

And then one lesbian asks the other lesbian (about Homer) “What’s her problem?”

Homer: I’d be lying if I said my men weren’t committing crimes, Kent
Kent: Touche
TV: Stock in Animatronics(?) plummeted 75 today
Homer: I hope plummet means up and 75 means 125

Good detective work there, Marley23!
