Since updating to Firefox v. 1.5, flash doesn't work and I can't see movies

Why? I’ve updated my Quicktime, WMP, Realplayer, and reinstalled all of my extentions and all that crap. No flash works and whenever I try to view a movie in the brower, I can hear but can’t see it.

What’s up?

there are known problems with java with v1.5. The problem with flash apparently occurs if you are also using adblock. “Due to increased security in Flash Player 8.0, enabling OBJ-TABS in Adblock will result in no Flash content being displayed. One workaround around at this time is to disable OBJ-TABS.”
from http://www.linuxcompatible.org/Firefox_1.5_-_Flash_and_Java_problems_t33710.html

If it is adblock casuing the problem there is also a new extension that might fix it http://aasted.org/adblock/viewtopic.php?t=2264&sid=9cc5cf65eb674abedc3929c16d8d921b

Everything that I’ve seen says that you shouldn’t be using Adblock with 1.5 anyway, but should instead use Adblock Plus. I used Adblock for a while, with no major problems, but the Firefox process would typically eat up 250 MB of memory instead of 70 or 80 with Adblock Plus.

You can temporarly turn Adblock off (and back on) by holding Shift and Ctrl and hitting B.

I had the same problem with 1.5. I solved it by:

  1. Uninstalling Flash (using Macromedia’s older Flash uninstaller)
  2. Uninstalling Adblock
  3. Installing the latest Flash player
  4. Installing a newer version of Adblock

Thereafter Flash content was fine once again.
