Single song repeat: anyone else do this?

I listened to “La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin this way. Also, “Kiss From a Rose” by Seal.

I do this as well.

Sometimes it’s just a really cool song like “Haircut” from George Thorogood, “Couldn’t Stand The Weather” from Stevie Ray Vaughan, “People Who Died from Jim Carroll” or anything from Van Halen 1984.

Sometimes it’s when I’m depressed over a woman (sadly, it’s usually over one particular woman). Then it’s either “Black” from Pearl Jam, or any of either “Shame”, “Violent Mood Swings”, “What Do I Have To Do?”, “Why?”, or “I Don’t Believe”, from Stabbing Westward.

Sometimes it’s when I download a new song and Winamp repeats it endlessly because I get sidetracked and don’t pay attention.

Paul Schaeffer likes Sussudio yet.
Plays it all the time, when he’s not playing Backstreet Rag. Good enough for me.
I also can take Sweet Dreams by the hour.

And Graceland. I play that CD until my guests cry for a break. Sorry, guests, we don’t change the bill after the curtain is up.

  1. Nin and the Spice Girls, Closer to Spice (if you don’t do napster, like me, you can dl it from http://www.nachtwache.org/~ntang , which is Mr. Elthia’s site).

  2. Star of the County Down, I forgot who plays it (though Kathy DeAngelo and her hubby in McDermott’s Handy are my absolute favorite - Jethro Tull influences and all)

  3. The soundtrack (in its entirety) to the Matrix

  4. Aknot, What? (bonus track on the soundtrack to The Fifth Element)

in other words, I do that too

Too many to count. Last night, it was “Love Hate Love” by Alice in Chains. This morning, it was “Corduroy,” by Pearl Jam. Can you tell I’m a grunge chick?

Among those mentioned in this thread, I often put “Kiss From a Rose” and “Soma” on repeat. “Make Me Bad” by Korn was a recent one. About a month ago, I listened to “Plowed” by Sponge for almost an entire evening.

I do this a lot and feel quite guilty about it actually. As if I’m personally insulting the artists when I don’t give each tune equal play time.

Some recent offenses:

  • Scorpions “Is There Anybody There?”, “Hit Between the Eyes”
  • David Lee Roth “Stand Up” and “Perfect Timing”
  • AC/DC “Bedlam in Belgium” (Flick of The Switch, 1983)
  • Mr. Big “How Can You Do What You’re Doing”
  • 311 “Beautiful Disaster”
  • Foo Fighters “Monkey Wrench” and “Everlong”
  • Dweezil Zappa “Havin’ a Bad Day”

I have done this numerous times. Sometimes I do it to torture myself, like when I listened to Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) by Enya for five straight hours while writing a paper for school. Very good for motivating me not to waste time while I write. Other times I do it to torment other people, for which I usually use Ricky Martin, as it seems that I’m about the only person in my entire fraternity that actually enjoys his music. Go figure.

Whoa. I’ve done the “Love Hate Love” repeat, too. Usually, though not always, it’s to get into character for my Vampire LARP character.

You betcha! I, too, can listen to Lenny’s Fly end on end. Right now though my favorite is Dido, Here with Me. That song is awesome. In fact, I have it playing on my 'puter over and over again. God, I love mp3s.

No. You’re all nuts.

I do this all the time. But i dont do it when i’m with other people. I’ve actually listened to a song 5 times in the car once. I’ve been listening to another song for several hours now.

my list:

-Extra - Ken Ishii. This is a techno song, done by a Japanese artist. His video is what hooked me. The song and the video just fit together (the video is anime and was done specifically for this song). It has snippets of different scenes, and the anime is spectacular (there’s some computer animation in it, IIRC (some scenes are very violent, like a little kid shooting a psychotic knife weilding doll woman in the head). I think the song is also very good (lots of layering of melodies, and beats).

  • The Humpty Dance - Digital Undergound. This song I remember when it first came out. I liked it then and I still like it now. I once played that song for 5 hrs straight.

  • That’s the Way Love Goes - Janet Jackson. One of my favorites. I loved that album that it was off of. It was right when she switched from more dance type stuff to smoother, slower love songs. I’ve played the cd over and over again also.

Definitely. My taste is for show music,
and sometimes I play the same song in
both English and as many foreign languages
as I have. Or every cast CD from a single
show.

I vote for Centerfield. Love that song so much. Keep the CD in my car. In the spring, it’s the first song I want to hear over and over…

This is a slightly different take on the OP.

When I was a spotty adolescent, I discovered Led Zeppelin, mainly on the strength of “Stairway To Heaven”. I would listen to this song often; maybe not over and over, but definitely frequently.

Some years ago, an Australian comedy show and its host decided to take the piss out of the “greatest song ever written” and had various artists do their own version of “Stairway To Heaven” in their own musical style. There Beatles sound-alikes, Abba sound-alikes, blues bands, jazz, B52’s sound-alikes, bluegrass, a philharmonic choir, and yes, an Elvis sound-alike.

Naturally I have a copy…
