in reading michael orens book ‘six days of war’, i came across a passage describing a secret weapon used by the isrealis to hold off the jordanians in jerusalem. it was codenamed ‘L’ after its inventor david laskov.
“…the L was a coffin-shaped ground-to-ground missile that hit with devastating impact.”
does anyone know the story behind the coffin shape? what made it better than an ordinary missile?
Okay, so now my ultimate anti-traffic jam vehicle needs one of those on top, next to the 1920’s style “Death Ray”, and that South African flamerthower mounted on the sides. This is getting expensive.
Most likely their secret weapon was telling the U.S. (in secret) that if they didn’t get any military support, the nukes would start flying like maybugs.
Well, that obviously didn’t work - the U.S. didn’t provide any military support whatsoever in 1967.
As for the OP, there’s no real way of knowing. Besides infantry ATGMs and stuff like the MLRS, most IDF missiles are Air Force property, and the IAF classifies everything, including their pilots’ faces.
It’s easy to remember - the Six Day War ('67) is the one where Israel planned and practiced every little detail for years ahead of time, had the complete initiative, and won easily. The Yom Kippur War ('73), OTOH, is the one where Syria and Egypt planned and practiced every little detail for years ahead of time, had the complete initiative, and almost won.
