[Elvis]As the snow flies
On a cold and gray chicago mornin’
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
’cause if there’s one thing that she don’t need
It’s another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto[/Elvis]

One of my college friends (Texas A&M University, Class of 1992. WHOOP!) was from Beeville. Although she’s a bit older than you, her family name, McKay, might be familar.
Hey Pat…I was raised in Ames from age 3 and still go back a few times a year. Must admit I don’t remember you in the Trib, though I do remember Pat Beach from the ISU Daily and Register.
Subway on Welch Av., hmm? I remember the one on Main, and there’s one in the 66 station on N. Grand…anyhow, that’s one helluva sammich. My favorite things about Ames are Hickory Park BBQ, the ISU carillon (I got to play it once!) and Brookside Park. I also have the WOI-TV canned music library (big ole 16" E.T. discs) in my house, thanks to Papa Doug, who worked in the old Exhibit Hall studios when they decided to knock them down in the '90s. He’d been a Telecom major in the '50s in those very same studios…
As for me, I currently reside in quiet but crowded Irvington-on-Hudson, NY, having been in the greater NYC area for 16 years now.
Born and raised in Van Wert County Ohio, living in Van Wert right now. My mom now lives a bit NW of Convoy.
An aunt and uncle used to live in Defiance, now live in Antwerp.
I went to college in Huntington, IN, 1980-85. Lived and worked at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, VA from 86-89. Lived in Harrisonburg, VA until 91.
Go to Worldcon most years, since 1994 only missed it the last time it was in Glasgow in 95 and San Jose in 02. Used to go to Balticon, but stopped when they moved it to Memorial Day weekend. Instead I go to Marcon, in Columbus, OH that weekend.
Grew up in (and am still living in) Sand Springs, Oklahoma, which is a suburb of Tulsa. But I did live in Owasso (another suburb of Tulsa) for about ten months in 1992.
Went to college for a couple of years at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami (Fall 1995 to Spring 1997).
Have worked at several hotels and motels in Tulsa and Sand Springs and at several call centers (taking calls for VarTec Telecom, Cricket Wireless, Sprint Wireless, ShopNBC, and currently, DirecTV).
In regards to the OP, my father attended Hyde Park High School many years ago. And my mom got her nursing diploma fromMichael Reese Hospital, so I guess that makes me an honorary south-sider.
Born in Dearborn, lived in Livonia, then moved to Santa Cruz for my pre-teen and teenage years.
Maybe she already posted, but here goes - I attended Soquel High School, where I was in total awe of JillGat and of course her brother (he was yummy
back then, but that’s another story).
I attended a few colleges, ummm, quite a few, I was “looking for myself”. UCSC, Cabrillo College, Sierra College, American River College.
Lived in the Auburn - Sacramento area for years, now situated in Palm Springs.
Previous owner of season tickets for the Sacramento Kings and San Francisco Giants. First started going to Candlestick in 1972, so if you saw any games between now and then, we probably passed each other on heart-attack hill.
