Six Feet Under 5/18

I can’t believe that nobody has started a thread on this episode!

Well, I’ve got bad feelings this week about good old George. Six former wives!!! Wasn’t there an English king with six wives, most of whom met with Very Bad Endings? Ruth, take a hint! Run as fast as you can. In the opposite direction!

Nate’s sinking fast. I understand his hallucinations and dreams about Lost Lisa. Any of them could be true. And I’m joining the faction who think that just when Nate is getting comfy with Brenda (which he’ll do when he hits absolute rock bottom, maybe during next week’s episode), she’ll come moseying back as if nothing ever happened. He should not have hopped in the hay with the tattooed blond client, however. Very bad choice.

Hoorah for David! He finally got the balls to call Keith on his attitude and anger. I loved his line: “I am so tired of being afraid of you!” Egggzzz-zellent! You go, David. And stay away from that Keith. He may be pretty, but he is so very dangerous. Stay away from the boy singer, too. He is not what you need right now. He’s just a convenient warm body.

Poor Claire. This abortion should put her into a funk that will last well into next season.

Does anybody else think that Baby Maya is not that cute???

I thought it was a great episode. George has definitely raised the creep factor. Six wives…I would have figured Ruth to run for the hills after that announcement. I have a feeling he’s going to try to take the business from her. Maybe on behalf of that hideous bitch that’s been trying to get the business from them.

Claire will be ok. It was nice of Brenda to go with her. I don’t think she’ll suffer any long-term psychological damage.

I also think little Maya is a little funny looking. But then so was I when I was her age.

The hideous bitch seems to be out of the picture; her corporation (wasn’t it called Kroener or something like that?) conveniently went bankrupt. I think they tend to just drop storylines on this show if they don’t know how to resolve them.

I guess this is the most miserable we’ve ever seen Nate. Personally, it’s hard for me to imagine slam-fucking a blond skank while I’m worrying that my missing wife may have been murdered by somebody like the blond’s father…

This show used to be quirky-funny.
Of late, the show has been about as funny as a funeral.

Mrs. foolonthehill had a hard time with the blonde skank as well. However people do weird things in grief, (Halle Berry in ‘Monster’s Ball’; “Make me feel good, make me feel good.”).
Did you notice the progression in Nate’s dreams/hallucinations; Lisa runs away, then she is murdered, then she commits suicide. He’s beginning to believe she is dead. Her return is really gonna screw him up.

What a great actor is Cromwell. “I still miss some of mine too.” We won’t know for a while whether he is good/bad.

Keith is certainly always angry, but I think this is the first time he’s realized David is afraid of him. Coming from a violent home, he’s trying not to be anything like his father, and David’s comment really threw him. I think David is making a mistake. And that little Maricon’ is no help at all.

The ‘assembly line’ abortion clinic was seriously creepy. That set of scenes was the best in a while on this show. Especially Brenda being so ‘matter-a -fact’ about it.

Good show all-in-all, next week will be even creepier.

Haven’t had a chance to see it yet; will try to catch it on Tuesday but will definitely see it on Wednesday (I fell asleep whilst taping a show just prior to SFU and hence didn’t get to change the channel!). I have, however, been able to get the “gist” of the episode from various posts and from the TwoP recaplet (thank goodness!) so am making a few comments on what I’ve read so far.

Firstly, foolonthehill, thank you muchly for the triple-play post…however, that does not mean that the season finale will be on -next- week. Rather, it will be on in -two- weeks, on June 1.

One comment I read was how much sex there was in the episode; it does seem a bit gratiutous at times. I’ll have to view the episode to get the take on the daughter of the client (a serial murderer who was executed?!); hard to believe that Nate was looking for … something with her, but people do strange things sometimes when they’re coping with something really stressful.

I don’t want Keith and David to break up! But I understand where David is coming from. It’s wrong, though, for him to have been unfaithful like that. I really wish that they’d worked out ground rules before they started that “menage a trois” scene that they were into–that helped to set the stage for infidelity, imo.

Poor Claire! I knew she’d get an abortion, and kudos to SFU & HBO for not being afraid to show it. I think Claire will be okay, and hope that she will be able to share with her family–but knowing them all, she won’t! LOL

OMG, it’s so hard to believe the end of the season is upon us! This is going to be a nearly unendurable two weeks, but the hardest of all will be waiting for next season, because I do believe there will be a fantastic cliffhanger ending that will really leave viewers wondering.

I actually did start a thread on this episode, sorta - I asked what the music was that was playing while David was at Patrick’s (I think that’s his name, the guy he slept with), and also while Claire was recovering at Brenda’s. I liked both - any ideas?

I felt for that… “Blonde skank”.

I felt so bad when she just broke down. Life didn’t treat her well, and even though she was disfunctional, I didn’t think of her as a “blonde skank”. The actress who played her did a good enough job to hit me directly in the stomache when she cryed her eyes out.

She made a pass at a man she knew was married. That’s pretty damn skanky.

Maybe it’s skanky, but considering all of the shit she had gone through, I think it’s forgivable.

Nate’s a big guy, I think he has the ability to say “no”. If she’s skank, than most everyone on the show is too.

For me, her being skanky had nothing to do with her actions. She just looked skanky. She oozed dysfunctional and neediness - Nate, why didn’t you RUN!?

Nate will realize his awful mistake and feel horrible guilt, whether she comes back or not.

What was the deal with that strange tattoo on her leg?

And I, for one, think baby Maya is butt ugly for a baby.

I think it was pretty sleazy of Nate to nail a client, especially with his wife missing. Remember, he called her up for the booty call. Then he slammed on her after her father’s funeral, “Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me? You don’t get to cry” I think she’s messed up enough for Nate, but he’s into the artist-type messed up, not the trailer tramp-type messed up.

David really surprised me by getting with Patrick. I thought he’d have the decency to break up with Keith first. And poor Keith! He’s an angry man, yeah, but he means well and would never hit David. I do see them as being a poor match for one another.

George: does anyone else think he might be a con man? Six marriages? And Ruth’s not poor either.

Rico needs to get that SIL out of his house pronto. She’s not going to help his marriage with Vanessa at all.

Next episode looks like it’s going to be really big & weird. I can’t wait!

Warning: This post will contain semi-spoilers in reference to the “scenes from the next episode.”

Just because we saw Lisa in the scenes from the next episode doesn’t mean that she’s alive. It could be from a hallucination or dream sequence. They probably won’t resolve this until next season anyway. She’s out partying it up with Gabe most likely. What the fuck ever happened to him? (The Chrystler commercial doesn’t count.)

Keith was totally befuddled when he found out that David was scared that Keith might hit him. This might finally be the wake up call that Keith needed. Too bad that it might be too late. I hope not. Keith is a great character.

Nate fucking the blonde skank was way beyond the pale. I really wish that that hadn’t happened.

Also in next week’s scenes, Claire saying, “he’s dead?” Could this be the weirdo ex-boy friend, the art teacher or just another Fisher and Diaz customor?

Another scene from next week. Does Rico get jiggy with Vanessa’s sister? Just when you thought things couldn’t get more fucked up…

George is not what he seems to be. I think he is a major con artist. There was something weird about the book on geology that didn’t have his picture on the back.

Haj

I like David and Keith together - Keith is an angry man and seems to be messed up from his father. I hope no matter their relationship that Keith stays around on the show, he’s purty.

I do not have George figured out yet… something is up though.

And ohhh, I forgot about Rico, he SO needs his SIL out of the house. I admit Rico can come across as a chauvinistic
pig at times, but that SIL is just a jealous ol biddy.

Addressing things seen in the trailer for the season finale:

I could be wrong, but I thought Rico might have been in the car with either a dance instructor or that woman he was dancing with the night he went on his own.

I’m not sure what to think about George yet. I don’t think it’s strange for him not to have his photograph on the back of an academic textbook, but one never knows. The six previous wives are a little disturbing. I do, however, love the matter-of-fact but casual way Ruth tells the family, “I’ll be at George’s.” She’s a bit of a sex kitten, isn’t she?

Lauren Ambrose continues to astonish me. She has got to be one of the finest young actors working today.

I didn’t do that… Honest, I didn’t do that.
I kept getting “connection failure” and then just took me off the board, when I came back there were 3 posts.
Honest

I agree. That scene (last week) when Russell tells her about him and Olivier was awesome.
