Sounds like good advice. Seriously, the other guy is likely to be just as scared as you are, and distracted, at that point. The risk might be worth it.
The thing I hate most about this episode is that Mina died happy, and poor Gayle died worrying about Markus.
OP checking in - sorry I can’t say much as I have been busy and barely keeping up - have only seen six episodes so far, but lovin’ it…glad to see they have expanded the storylines to other countries, and so far they have done a good job at character development.
Looking forward to reading this thread once I have seen all the episodes!
Save that Gayle arrived at the Pearly Gates with flowers and balloons, while Mina arrived in a small, very warm room with Satan (the real one) drumming his fingers on the desktop.
I hope that next season, the writers give Darwyn someone competent to work with – either a decent FBI agent or another sleeper.
I was hoping Ilijia would act on what seemed to be a change of heart, but maybe he will, given more time.
One thing I don’t understand – if Farik knew Darwyn was FBI, why didn’t he move his camp and get the hell out of there? Darwyn shows up with Samia – Farik had to know something was up, that Darwyn couldn’t get her out of the UK and into Yemen without help.
But it made for a hell of a shock when that missile came in. Anybody else jump? I was thinking the thing Samia was holding was just a little bomb. Damn.
As I said upthread, I found the ending to be very unsatisfying. The knockdown dragout at the end went on too long and ended poorly. I get that they’re keeping pieces in place for a potential third season, regardless of how ridiculous the notion of Darwyn’s infiltrating yet another cell would be (perhaps for season 3 Darwyn will be the handler and someone else the mole?) but I seriously think that one of the two needed to die. Of course maybe that’s my own expectation that ending will actually be, you know, endings and by keeping Farik alive the makers are cleverly thwarting our expectations, but still, die. Kepp lija alive because he’s the most interesting character that’s appeared in either season, one of the few who’s actually developed a third dimension. A season of watching him struggle between a desire for revenge, the pull of his “duty” to the jihad and his awakening feelings of opposition to the cause could be fascinating. Ooh, or maybe Ilija will b the next sleeper! That would guarantee that I’d watch.
Still, overall, a few strong characterizations, Gayle’s dead and some hot Muslim on infidel manlove. definitely better than season 1.
No, there’s no way that Darwyn can go undercover again. Actually at this point, there’s probably a very large price on his head. So one possible plot point for next time is their attempt to kill him.
Ilija was an interesting character, first when he regretted having to kill his girlfriend, whom he seemed to genuinely love (I thought at first that he was simply using the girl), and then his change of heart after the conversation with the truck driver.
And in both seasons, there was an American convert to Islam as a member of the cell; Tommy, the blonde kid from Berkeley, the first year and then Benny this time, the former Latino gang member.
Finally saw the last episode tonight - and was impressed with the entire series.
Regarding possible plots for next season - perhaps Ilja will become the newest member of the anti-terrorist team? He seems to be having second thoughts, and seems to have regretted all of his prior involvement…and it certainly would make for an interesting twist - maybe Darwin as the handler?
At any rate - it was another good season (well, if 8 episodes a season makes) and I hope they do another season next year. Should anyone read about a new season being planned, please start a thread to give a heads up!
What interesting ideas! Darwyn as the handler and Ilija as the mole! [url=http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=8066288&postcount=47]Why didn’t I think of that?
I read on another board that Michael Ealy was signed for a five year contract.
Ilijia as the new UC? I’d watch that too. I didn’t like how Farik said “I forgive you”. Ilijia had done nothing to be forgiven for, except survive, and take a trip home, which is what Farik did. The bastard.
