Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Actually, the kids came back from being at grandma’s all week, so I spent some time appreciating their ability to turn a clean house into a cluttered mess in 60 seconds and having the TV on Nickelodeon. Eh, all that peace and quiet we had last week was kind of unnatural, anyway.

BooFae, if she’s naffed now, wait 'til I spend the night at the Rescue station tomorrow night because I have duty there…

Great story, BBB! Glad you’re okay at the end of it.

I am contemplating tying my students up and beating them with sticks until they get the concept of READING OVER their papers before they turn them in. It’s so blatantly obvious that they don’t. Half their sentences run-on for over five lines and make no sense. Laziness, I tell you. I won’t have it!

I think that even those who do read over will stop once, they find out what their punishment is going to be!

Good work, Bob, and I’m glad you’re okay. Your wife is being really annoying about all the rescue stuff. It’s an important job, and I’m glad you’re doing it.

Up. Drinking chocolate milk, not puking, and off to laundromat.

Glad everything turned out ok, BBBobbio! And I’m always glad there are firefighters and EMTs who are willing to volunteer to do that stuff.

Pretty quiet weekend here. Spent a good amount of time by the pool. I love having a pool. Especially one that someone else maintains. Yeah, so it means that sometimes there are other people there and sometimes some of them are noisy/rowdy. But if you go at off times, it’s like having our own pool!

KeithT took off yesterday for a few days of visiting college friends and going to a music fest thing. So I’m enjoying a couple days of solitude. I really needed this! After 6 years of living alone, this whole living with someone thing - even after a year of it now - takes its toll. Compromise isn’t my strong suit! I find myself getting short with him when he’s not doing anything wrong, just not doing something my way. I hate it when I do that. :frowning: Hopefully a few days apart will let me destress a bit and I can be less uptight when he gets back.

I met with the woman who’s teaching me to knit last night and got started on the baby blanket I’m making for a friend. I think it’s going to look pretty good when I finish.

This morning instead of going to the gym, I went rollerblading in a park by a creek/pond area here. It was wonderful. There were 10 egrets on one little pond plus two blue herons, a little hawk in a tree, a flock of (I think) pelicans floating around on the main pond, some baby ducks, and as I was coming around the final stretch, an eagle that swooped in and landed on an old tree stump out in the middle of the big pond. He just sat there watching for fish. It was wonderful. I love that there are lots of eagles around here. I think I’ve seen more in the last year than in my whole life previously. What a way to start the week off.

Ooh…Haze disciplining students…yum. I’ve turned lesbian in the night! (or maybe just sadistic…heh). Be sure to use a metal edged ruler.

I just finished my recorded book talk–gah, I suck at that. I stumbled and read my script wrong and coughed and said, um. Bah. Then again, tis done!
I am sitting here with a cuppa. (tea, no liquor, folks). I think I overdid it yesterday-I did some light yardwork and I vaccuumed. Today I am exhausted. This is so stupid.

Vundercakes–I dunno, it sounded right. I suggest that VW is also (deep down) afraid you’ll get hurt or dead. Also there is no $ with this, correct? So, what if you’re disabled doing this and she’s left with handling Mayberry RFD? Just a thought. (also, youdidn’taskbutI’mtellingyouanyway you are taking on a different role that she is not comfortable with–perhaps you need to have speech with her about her concerns).
And if that doesn’t work, F 'er! (do we swear here, I forget. F subsitiuted for delicate sensibilities).

I don’t get paid, but between the life insurance and AD&D I have at the day job, she’s well off if something happens to me in general. If something happens to me in the line of duty with either station, she’ll be mildly wealthy, and she knows this.

Part of the problem is her chronic illness. She wants me around the house to take care of her, and I have to be doing something all the time. This stuff satisfies my adrenaline addiction…

Great OP, BBBobbio! I’m glad you’re ok! Gatorade makes Propel fitness water, only 10 calories, with potassium and sodium…

It’s still raining!!! AAAGGGHHH. Enough already. They’re watching the Brazos River here - it’s getting pretty high, what with all the rain in central Texas…

I wanna go to the beach on the 4th… It better not rain!

I only have to work two days this week, I’m off Wed-Fri. Woo-hoo!

Now for our (semi) daily recipe:

Jerk Shrimp Skewers with Mambo Rice and Mango Salsa

Marinade for shrimp:
1 onion, chunked
3 green onions
2 inch poices of peeled ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbs ground allspice
1 tbs ground nutmeg
1 c orange juice
1/4 c lime juice
1/4 c soy sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 scotch bonnet pepper, de-seeded -or- a pinch of red pepper flakes

Blend in a food processor, and put in a plastic bag with 1 lb peeled shrimp (tails on or off.) Marinade for an hour, then skewer on water soaked wooden skewers. Grill over medium-high heat until pink, about 2 minutes per side.

Mambo Rice:
Make rice as normal (one cup uncooked rice, but make with chicken broth instead of water if you have it.) When it’s cooked, stir in 1 tbs each chopped parsley and cilantro, and a drizzle of olive oil, and some salt and pepper.

Mango salsa:
1 mango, chopped
1 cucumber, chopped
3 green onions, chopped
1 tbs brown sugar
1 tbs lime juice
1 tsp minced ginger

Stir all together and refrigerate.

i made this with some grilled zucchini and portobellas - yum!

Ah, then it’s that she’s not comfortable with this new role you’ve taken on. <shrugs> She’ll just have to deal.

I’m bored and have errands to run. Where is my personal assistant? I wanna be a big star, just so’s I can have a personal assistant.

Can I drive your car?
(hey, with your handle, you have got to get the reference!)

ETA: We’re on page 2 already?

Did I menshun I’sh gosh a cold? By doze iz agdin’ up, aaaagh! Abd I’b god do voic, od radde, ib I fodc m’self do zpeak, I zound 'ike my bro when he’z 'ungovah.

Anybody who needs rain is welcome to take mine. It was raining most of last week, finally stopped on Friday, just in time for the weekend. I wanted to go to Geneve on Saturday or Sunday - after all, it’s about a 2h drive, so given the time at which I wake up it’s perfectly reasonable to make it a day trip so long as I don’t insist in walking for 6 hours. But I had some errands to run and by the time I was done I was starting to feel clogged; as the day went on, it became evident that it wasn’t just allergies. I’ve slept more than usual both nights (didn’t even have to wake up to blow my nose or because of having a dry throat, amazing but sure nice) but I’m still beat. It was so bad that, thinking today and tomorrow would be the worst days, I was seriously thinking of slipping work.

But I’m not so bad off today, so I’m at work. It’s been raining quite seriously on-and-off all day, though. I want to wear summer clothes, dammit! I have laringitis, though, so I got one of those little erasable grey tablets and I’m writing to people instead of talking to them. Anybody doesn’t like it, tuff luck. Dad’s Mom (Abuelita) used to have one at the phone to take notes - that way she always had “pen and paper” handy. She’d jot down whatever and then transfer it to real pen and paper. When my tonsils were taken out I got to use the tablet while my throat healed… we were living in a smaller town and the operation was in the town where she lived, so we stayed at her house for a couple of weeks.

In other news, the latest Mafia game is being taken over by the MMP ladies. I had to refrain from waving “hi SCL and Haze!”

well, I got a driver and that’s a start!

Glad to hear you’re ok, Bobbio.
Gotta remember to keep hydrated!

Some1, looks like your cloak-and-dagger brethren done good…

You know why you can’t circumcise an Arab terrorist?

Because there’s no end to those pricks.

Welcome back, Bibs. Without getting too nosey, how’s the domestic situation going?

We are seriously considering getting a pool ourselves. It would be a built in model (of course - seems my GF is incredibly high maintenance in tastes, but can’t stand to spend the money to get what she wants. Kind of a strange dictomony, but I’m learning how to deal with it.) Yesterda and Saturday we were working in the yard, and she decided that it would have been so much better to jump in the pool when we were done instead of going inside for a shower.

Nava send the rain over this way. I saw on the news last night that we’re more than 6-1/2 inches below normal annual rainfall so far.

Morning, y’all.

It’s going well. Lute Skywatcher kindly adopted my cats this weekend.
I had to find a new home for them, because I’m moving in two weeks to a new apartment. We’re selling our house, and I’m finally getting out.
Work is going well, working some overtime, which is always good.
Things with the soon-to-be Ex are difficult (he tends to act like a spoiled child), but I have a lot of love and support from those around me, so I’m doing well.

I didn’t bring my knitting in to work. This was a mistake. Everyone who has vacation time has taken today off, so it’s just me here. What’s worse is I had to park in the building today, with no in/out privileges, so I can’t go home and get it either. At least we can wear jeans all week.

This morning I was so frazzled (I had a rotten weekend), I took off without my badge and forgot to put my seatbelt on until I was halfway down the road. I never do that. I always put my seatbelt on before I start the car. Of course, I had a chance to grab my knitting when I went back for the badge, but oh, well.

When I went to buy my bottled water this morning, something happened to it in the vending machine, and when I pulled it out, it sprayed water everywhere, including my shoes.

The project that was supposed to take me all morning took 10 minutes.

The week can only get better, right?

Oh wow. This one almost made me cry it was so funny. Thanks, Bobbio.
